Clear video, easy setup, and perfect for baby monitoring
By Amazon Customer on Reviewed in the United States on August 5, 2025
I’ve been using this Tapo camera for a couple months now and I’m honestly impressed. The video quality is sharp and clear both day and night. The pan and tilt function works smoothly through the app, and I can cover my entire living room without any blind spots. Setup was super easy I downloaded the Tapo app, scanned the QR code, and was up and running in less than 10 minutes. I love that it supports microSD storage (I’m using a 128GB card) so I don’t have to pay for cloud unless I want to. The motion detection and notifications are pretty accurate. It even picked up my baby crying in the middle of the night. I use the two way audio to talk to my baby when I’m out the sound is decent on both ends. One small thing: when it’s really dark, the night vision gives off a faint clicking noise when switching modes not a dealbreaker, but something to know. Overall, this is a solid indoor camera for the price. Whether you’re using it for a baby, pets, or home security, it’s a great entry level choice that does way more than you’d expect at this price.

Good for short video ranges, but it's features are lacking.
By Zack Chambers on Reviewed in the United States on June 20, 2025
So, I've had this unit for a few weeks now. And I do have to say, if you intend on just keeping an eye on something? It's great. Sucks you have to pay for a premium service for some features but such is life in 2025.  My pros and cons are  Pros: it has relatively good camera quality, if you don't zoom in and are close to your target.  Cons: the speaker for two way audio is very quiet, even my dog can't hear me unless nothing is on and I'm screaming at my phone in public. Also, the limited night vision range and clarity makes it better in the daytime when you don't have a range restriction. At night, you can see static details but movement is difficult. I have to verbally yell at my dog to see the glint of his eyes to "ping" where he is at any given time.  In addition, the motion and people sensing sends a lot of false positives. With my house locked, and my dog in it's cage, I still get person detected notifications even with it pointed directly at him, so apparently my house is just haunted. Lol  It's not a bad budget camera if you are only using it for close range, but as a budget friendly alternative, id highly reccomend Wyze and they even have color night vision! Why did you pick this product vs others?: The price Recording capability: Somewhat good, but you need to pay for a subscription to access cloud storage. Otherwise you're going to need an SD card.  App functionality: The app is good but the features don't work as well as you would hope they would in terms of two-way audio and usability.  Clarity: The clarity is good at close ranges but as you move to longer ranges and with night vision it degrades, I will say it probably exceeds it's 30 ft night vision range as I can see my neighbor's house relatively clearly in IR mode App quality: Seems like it was designed by someone with ADHD but it's not bad for what you get. its okay, kinda finicky and it lacks valuable widgets Storage capacity: I don't have an SD card, but the cloud will restrict you to 720p if you max out videos without regularly deleting them. This could be optimized better Design: The design is average, it's adjustable to the needs of the average person. It doesn't have height adjustment, only forward tilt and roll which is okay, but makes it difficult for squeezing a camera in tight places like a windowsill. This camera doesn't see through glass in either day or night mode so if you're peeing out a window, it has to be cracked.  Hope this helps! For reference, the Wyze Cam V4 is an affordable 35 dollars per unit!
