Good starter kit for MTG
By Jeff Smith on Reviewed in the United States on June 29, 2025
This is a very nice starter kit for two or more players, although the card pool in it is a bit on the thin side. It comes with several pre-made decks, two play boards that map out where cards go on the battlefield, and also has a physical rulebook, which is rare for MTG these days as Wizards has been fanatically pushing their online play platform (Arena) over paper Magic. For old fogies like me who don't play online MTG and prefer something tangible, this is great for teaching new players or getting your hands on a physical rulebook. There are several decks of varying colors, with some decent cards (but no really powerful rares). Still, for about $25 I feel like it was a good investment, just for the newer cards, rulebook and playing field boards. There's also room enough in the box to stash some more cards, tokens, etc. if you so desire. Recommended.

Too many worthless cards
By Z on Reviewed in the United States on December 2, 2024
This box contains 12 packs of 15-card boosters. 12-13 cards in each are foil. Only the first four cards in each pack are Rare or Mythic. If you're lucky you'll get at least 1-4 cards in each pack that are alternate art, borderless, extended art, etc.. But this means that each pack has ~10 cards that are just Common or Uncommon foils. I got these cards out of the whole box; 52 Common foil 43 Uncommon foil 21 Rare foil 2 Mythic foil Full art foil basic land in each pack 9 foil non-basic Land 42 cards were a mix of Mythic, Rare, Uncommon, and Common alternative art cards. They look good, but of these, only a small handful are actually valuable. I don't consider this Collector Booster Box a very good value. 95/180 cards are just plain foils of cheap cards. That's just over half of the entire box being cards you didn't actually want. The cards you actually want, the anime style cards with cool art and crazy foils, are still wicked rare at <1% hit rate per pack. The other ~20% of cards in the box with cool art are great, but it feels like a rip off to have to pay so much extra for all the chaff to get them. This product should have just been ONLY the alternative art cards with the cool foils, in a much smaller pack. A $170 box of booster packs of 4-6 cards each with all alternate arts and crazy foils, without having to pay for all these plain old common and uncommon foils, would have been much more appealing. Think about it, what am I gonna do with 95 worthless foil cards now? Too many to put in a display binder. Takes up space in my bulk box. I can try to swap some into my decks but not many are cards I actually use. I was lucky to get two anime cards from the box. But as mentioned this is NOT guaranteed. They're a <1% drop even amongst these packs. So across 12 packs, that means you have only a 11% chance of getting a single anime card in the entire box of boosters. To charge $300 for a booster box that only has 11% chance of getting a card you want, is a huge rip off. This Collector Booster Box is ok if you have a lot of money to burn but if you want specific types of cards, I wouldn't bother.
