Monster Hunter Stories Collection - Nintendo Switch
By Benjamin on Reviewed in the United States on February 5, 2025
An Incredible RPG Duo for Monster Hunter Fans! The Monster Hunter Stories Collection on Nintendo Switch is an absolute must-have for RPG fans and Monster Hunter enthusiasts alike. This collection brings together two fantastic, story-driven adventures that offer a unique twist on the Monster Hunter formula by focusing on turn-based combat, deep monster collecting, and an engaging narrative. Graphics & Presentation Both games look gorgeous on the Switch, with vibrant worlds, beautifully designed monsters, and smooth animations. The art style is more colorful and anime-inspired compared to the mainline Monster Hunter games, which fits perfectly with the more story-focused gameplay. Monster Hunter Stories 2 especially benefits from improved visuals, making every environment and monster feel alive. Gameplay & Combat Instead of the traditional action-based hunting, these games feature a strategic turn-based battle system where you befriend and train monsters (Monsties) to fight alongside you. The rock-paper-scissors-style combat (Power, Speed, and Technical attacks) keeps battles engaging, and skill customization and team-building mechanics add a layer of depth. There’s also online multiplayer, letting you battle and trade with other players, adding tons of replayability. Story & Exploration The narratives in both games are surprisingly deep and emotional, filled with memorable characters, exciting twists, and meaningful themes about the bond between humans and monsters. The open-world exploration is fun, with hidden treasures, side quests, and rare Monsties to discover. Final Thoughts The Monster Hunter Stories Collection delivers two excellent RPG experiences that are perfect for both longtime Monster Hunter fans and newcomers. With fantastic monster-collecting mechanics, engaging combat, and a rich world to explore, this collection offers dozens of hours of content. If you love RPGs or monster-catching games like Pokémon, this is an absolute must-play. A perfect 5-star experience!

Both are great games but sequel is digital
By John Kenneth Reese on Reviewed in the United States on March 31, 2025
Both games are awesome. They basically made a turned based monster collecting game in the Monster Hunter franchise. My big complaint is, I bought this because I have the original game on 3DS and I downloaded the sequel due to struggling to find the physical copy when it released and I wanted both on hard copy. Had I known that Wings of Ruins was digital, I would have just bought it by its self. I read the description and then reread it after it arrived and I still don't see anywhere it says that it's digital for switch. It says its available digitally for steam and ps5. I should've known though, because Nintendo had a spree of making these game collections and not mentioning that half the games are digital.
