Seems Accurate
By Pierced🦋Papilio on Reviewed in the United States on September 10, 2024
I’ve been wearing my Oura ring every day and night for a little over 3 months and it seems very accurate. I’m usually skeptical of wearable monitoring devices, but often try them nonetheless, so I use several different ones, along with non-wearable, more accurate monitors to compare reliability. The Oura seems to be spot on with my sleep, stress, and activity. It’s always detected my naps and routine “workout” activities (I created a label for my strenuous every day activities). Those are really the only stats I look at. Battery life is pretty good (mine usually needs charging nearly every 3-4 days). It’s very stylish and comfortable. I like the pulse ox and heart monitors as well. It works very well with the Apple Health app and integrates seamlessly. The Oura App is also very well designed and functions perfectly. I have not been very careful with my ring—I‘ve dropped it twice on a hard tile floor and I also wear it while working with power tools and while doing light construction/carpentry/craft work and it has held up exceptionally well. I also have worn it while washing my hands, but take it off during bathing/showering. When I first purchased it, I wore a silicone ring over it for protection, but it was too bulky. Overall, I am very happy with this tracker and would definitely recommend it. I love the sleep tracking with my Apple Watch, but sadly, it needs to be on the charging dock at night, so that feature is pretty useless for me. The Oura, however, is perfect.

Meh

I really like the idea of this ring and there’s some good stuff, but there’s also a lot not to like. First off, the style. It runs a bit smaller than the standard size. They do have a ring fit guide that you should buy. The rings are unisex, but that means that the band is quite wide for a ladies ring. I have rather large hands for a woman and I find this style too bulky. Also, if my fingers swell, I find it uncomfortable to remove, it actually seems to put pressure on a nerve. So make sure you lotion your finger up well to take off if you have any swelling. After having the ring for a little over a year, it’s got a few scratches that won’t buff out. They’re not bad, but I was a bit surprised at how easily it seemed to scratch. (See photo) I did try those silicone covers to protect it, but they seemed to hold water against my skin and irritate it. The battery life on it is quite good. Usually around 5-6 days on average. Now for functionality. The app is expensive at $7/month. And I don’t think it’s the easiest to navigate. I feel that it’s more accurate than my Apple Watch on step count and distance. As far as the accuracy of other readings, it’s told me I’ve had a stressful day when I literally lounged on the beach all day and read my stress level as low when I had an absolutely horrible day at work (I’m a cardiac RN so you know that can be incredibly stressful). When I recently got the flu, a few days prior it read my vitals as strained, but when I actually was sick, nothing. Period tracking is handy and there are some insights that the ring comes up with that are interesting. The sleep data, I don’t know how accurate that is either. According to this thing, I never have more than an hour of deep sleep a night. You can’t spot check anything other than heart rate. For the base price of the ring, the app should either be included or have a much lower yearly fee. Accuracy and ease of use needs to be improved as well. A thinner woman’s style should be made, or at least have some sort of design so it doesn’t look like you took your husband’s wedding ring and put it on your index finger.
