NOTE: Update Firmware to the latest! (updated review from one star)
By Kevin S. Morris on Reviewed in the United States on September 20, 2023
I had bought a used one and lucked out on one that is in pretty good condition. It was dirty and needed cleaning. The cord is great in length. Very comfortable to hold in hand and possibly one of my favorite designs, buttons and triggers are my favorite in feel. The joysticks are excellent, I prefer these types over the xbox design. I'm seeing a lot of controllers with extra buttons on the back and they work good. They blend well with the ergonomics to where you don't accidentally press them during intense situations in game. The D-pad is awesome and i really like the feel of it. There is a sense of weight and is not cheap feeling. The Problems: Something was way off with the controller, so i did a re calibration to find out the deadzone needed reset. It was sitting to the far upper left corner and not center. All of the other buttons worked fine except the XBOX logo button and the led above is not working. I dont know if that is the case for pc only, I am ok with not needing access to the xbox game bar. Ok! now in testing the controller with some games, i had luck with Xeno Crisis, and Moonrider. Had major issues with Resident evil 7 and Borderlands. This was very telling that i was going to have issues with most 3D games but 2D was not going to be an issue The joysticks were super messed up whenever i was moving my character, i could not look around. When i would look around i then could not move my character! No wonder this got sent back. I just about went nuts because i could not fix the issue and calibration did enough. It states that all of the buttons and joysticks were responding to my input although there was confusion. I was ready to repackage and send back UPDATE: Make sure to go to the 8bitdo website first thing for all of there controllers before using them if there are any firmware or app updates! I fixed this review from a 2 star (Amazing Ergonomics/Terrible function) to 5. I am not docking any stars after updating the firmware from 1.20 to 1.60. That fixed a lot of issues with the vibration function and completely reset the controller. Everything works and is functional. I played Resident Evil 7 and Borderlands again, all joysticks work with no issues now. The only minor problem now is I dont get a notification if its connected or not, once plugged in its already recognized so whatever. Buy new instead of used unless its been Refurbished. Update the Firmware. Other then that i Recommend this controller! This is becoming one of my favorite controllers to use on the PC. May eventually go back to wireless

One of the best controllers available... until it stops working
By Heather Cook on Reviewed in the United States on March 8, 2025
I bought this controller hoping it would be a controller I could keep using for the rest of my console's life without worrying about stick drift, and this was a fantastic controller that I was happy to use for as long as I used my xbox. I loved this controller, Like LOVE IT love it, which makes it all the more sad that it broke in less than a year, I bought this in July of 2024 and the right trigger stopped working in March of 2025. Very disappointing as I was taking good care of the controller and truly loved it. I do not treat my controllers poorly, neither of my 1st party Series controllers have had any issues in the years I've used them, but this one just up and broke on me randomly while playing Split Fiction. I liked the programmable buttons on the back and the great dpad and excellent sticks, and I will miss them when I'm back using the 1st party controllers, but at least those still work and won't stop anytime soon. I thought we were out of the era of 3rd party controllers being the cheap throwaway "little brother controllers" but I guess not. Heartbroken about this one because I genuinely loved it when it was working but I don't have the money to replace it with a new one.
