Good Case

The Defender series on my last phone was extremely bulky, and this one is much slimmer, but it still feels like it provides plenty of protection. I like that the outer shell portion is made of the softer plastic which provides a good grip, and the inner shell portion is the hard material. I do wish there was a built-in screen protector like in the older Defender series cases, but not enough to lower this rating. Not having a built-in protector does give people the flexibility to put in one they prefer so I understand why Otterbox did this. I'm very happy with my purchase. As a caveat, I purchase this when it was massively on sale for 46% off, and I think it was absolutely worth it for that price. I don't think I would be as happy with it if I paid full price. My one small issue with this case is regarding the opening on the back for the cameras. the cameras are on a part of the phone that protrudes out and so the case is designed to fit around that protrusion, but there is a tiny gap on each side. As a result, dust can get in. It doesn't get into the inside of the phone, just the small space between the phone and the case. The phone is still protected, but I do with they had made the case flush against the camera part.

Otterbox Defender for Pixel 8 👎
By Delvin on Reviewed in the United States on January 1, 2024
This case is not good on the Pixel 8. It is not a snug fit. The phone has a little bit of give to slide around by an extra millimeter inside the plastic shell. If you are planning on using this case with the Whitestone Dome adhesive screen protector, prepare to be disappointed because the corners of the case, when dropped, will push against the corners of the screen protector and mess up the adhesive of the Dome glass. My other problem with this case is it crackles a lot. I personally think the two-piece plastic shell being the inside layer is a bad idea. It is the reason why the phone is not perfectly snug inside of it. If Otterbox had just beefed up their Commuter case with the soft silicone layer on the inside and hard plastic shell on the outside layer, this case would have been phenomenal. I don't know why they make Commuter cases only for the A series pixels and not the yearly flagship models. Anyway, I give them credit for trying. I recently came across another beefy case that looks like a good contender to the Defender, however with no charging port dust flap. The case is called VRS Design for Pixel 8. The VRS fit is very snug over the Pixel 8 and doesn't seem like it will push the corners of the Dome glass when dropped on the corners. However, time and corner drops will tell and I will update my review on the VRS in due time (and drops).
