Very impressive even at over 220 inches

I had high hopes for this projector, even though its MSRP was a fraction (1/6) of the traditional DLP Christie projector it was replacing. The Christie was also rated for over 6000 lumens, more than the 5000 of this Viewsonic. However this projector is noticeably brighter and of similar image quality to the Christie at the same mounting position. This projector uses a less traditional mounting design, but we made it work. The RS232 also does not currently work with our Extron setup since we can not change the baud rate on the projector itself, since ViewSonic admits in the documentation that it will only accept one rate. Here is hoping we can change it on the Extron side. This projector also lacks direct HDBT support, but it is said to be rated for 24/7 operation, a feature we will be putting to the test at our college. The menu is also very basic, like their consumer models, which is a bit of a letdown. Normally, I would not consider Viewsonic for professional applications, but this is getting very close.

Good but expected to be amazed
By Nicole B. on Reviewed in the United States on July 24, 2024
I had high expectations for this projector based off the specs, the reviews and was disappointed. Does it have a nice picture? Yes. Is it bright, Yes and the contrast ratio is also very nice. My problem was I purchased it to replace a Cannon Projector that is 12-14 years old so I expected to be amazed and before removing the old projector and using the same screen tested new and old. The new one was a little clearer but sensitive with the manual focus, a little brighter but not enough to make it a good upgrade. The same fluorescent lights that washed out the old one also washed out the new one. The old one did not have a built in speaker and the new one does but it has the sound quality of modern cell phone speaker and IMO not practical in a larger room. With all that being said, if you never had a projector and this is your first one you will probably like it.
