Beast of a lens.

What a lens. This is my go to for street, portrait, sport, and events. 35-150 is such a huge range and it’s sharp at all levels. Auto focus is great except when it’s within about 6 feet, it will keep bouncing around even though it’s not at its minimum focal range. This is something I also noticed with the tamron version. One other thing is the creep, it does creep for sure. But ever since I put a rubber band (like a wrist band) I have not had a problem. The band has never fallen off either. It’s been a great lens.

💥 Was my favorite lens, but it broke... hello Tamron 👋

This lens WAS an absolute game changer, however I encountered something that I haven't seen others having issues with. I used this lens for about a month and a half, didn’t drop it or bang it… and the lens randomly stopped zooming at 70mm, so my range was only 35-70.... which doesn't make sense to me. No drops, dings, or any abuse. Only thing I can think of is maybe something rattled loose on the long flight back home across the country? Contacted samyang and they apparently knew the issue I was having right away which makes me think that this has happened (often?) before. I also noticed that within the 1.5 month of using it, a spec of dust made its way in towards the front element, which made it impossible to get out without sending it back to be professionally serviced. I was outside my return window and couldn’t afford the time away from it for servicing, as this lens’s abilities has become something I now can’t live without. Thankfully Amazon honored the return. I will bite the bullet and shell out a little extra coin to get the Tamron instead… Tamron is arguably slightly sharper depending on the version you receive (Samyang has quality control issues that vary between lenses), better chromatic aberration, 0.3lbs lighters, better autofocus (especially while zooming, the Samyang was terrible maintaining focus through zooms), no lens sag/creep when pointed towards ground (nd filters/diffusion filters make the samyang even worse), better lens flaring, cleaner rounder bokeh and a far better warrantee with Tamron at 6years in the US… You get what you pay for. I have read one review that dust will still find its way into the Tamron, but with a warrantee like that, I can afford to send it out during the off seasons if I encounter any issues. Because I’ve fallen head over heels in love with this lenses focal lengths and abilities, I have left it on my camera since I got it… until sending it back. But knowing how often it will be used and cherished, I know that the extra money spent towards the Tamron can be justified. Would have easily given this a better rating had it held up, but with it breaking out of nowhere and even the little dust that got in there within no time at all, I leave this review as a warning to those who are in a serious debate on whether or not to go with Tamron. This has the potential to be your new favorite lens with it’s focal lengths and low aperture, but if you wind up loving it as much as I did, you’ll be happy you waited and spent a little more.
