Really good for people wanting to upgrade normal tv into a high end smart tv, good for gamers too

If you've ever found yourself staring at your old, non-smart TV and thought, "Gee, I wish I could stream cat videos in glorious HD," then the Amazon Fire TV Stick is here to make your dreams come true. This nifty device transforms your regular television into a smart TV, granting access to a plethora of streaming services, apps, and even voice control through Alexa. Setting up the Fire TV Stick is a breeze—just plug it into your TV's HDMI port, connect it to Wi-Fi, and voilà! The interface is user-friendly, making navigation smoother than your favorite streaming service's autoplay feature. Plus, with the ability to install third-party applications, you're not just limited to the standard offerings; it's like having a buffet of entertainment at your fingertips. However, no device is without its quirks. One minor hiccup is the need for an additional outlet near your TV to power the Fire Stick. It's a small price to pay for streaming bliss, but it's worth noting. Also, while the Fire Stick plays well with most apps, some third-party applications might cause it to crash occasionally. It's like that one friend who always shows up late to the party—not a dealbreaker, just something to keep in mind. For those rocking a high-end smart TV, the Fire Stick might seem like overkill. But for everyone else, it's a cost-effective and powerful streaming device that breathes new life into older TVs lacking built-in smart features. And let's not forget, it also supports Amazon Luna cloud gaming, adding a cherry on top of your entertainment sundae. In conclusion, the Amazon Fire TV Stick is a game-changer for transforming your TV experience. It's like giving your television a much-needed upgrade without breaking the bank. So go ahead, plug it in, and let the streaming adventures begin!

Overall good but time-consuming to add certain apps
By memyselfandi on Reviewed in the United States on February 11, 2025
I've been using Roku's for many years with my non-smart tv, but I bought the Fire TV Stick 4K thinking it might be better with regard to newer internet protocols and other features. The firestick connected with Netflix, Prime, Youtube, and internet just fine. However, when I tried to connect YouTubeTV, PBS, and some other apps, it failed, saying they were "unavailable". All of these apps worked fine with Roku on the same tv. It turns out that for some reason Amazon had me listed in another country even though I've always had a US address and they've been shipping stuff to me here for almost 2 decades. It took forever to figure out the problem. I checked several support sites and tried several reboots and crazy workarounds, like using a secret code to get developer options working on the firestick, because Amazon took them out of the menu in this latest version, then having to download the app as an 'unknown' app. This download went into an endless loop. I was able to get YouTubeTV working after a couple of hours. I had to use their silk internet browser to make it work. Finally figured out the problem and fix with the excellent help of a customer service rep, though you have to go through lots of hoops and time to get an actual support person. It's working well now, but...Why a 3-star rating? - It was very difficult and time-consuming to figure out the problem with adding certain apps. - The firestick has a relatively small amount of storage space for apps, which is crazy in this time of unlimited storage space. And that space includes apps that you don't need and can't delete. - They show ads on the main screen at times - what?! Greed. - They want to charge you $3 a month to not have ads - then in a few months, they'll raise that, and again a few months after that. Even though I'm paying for Prime. Greed know no bounds. Bezos trying to catch up to Musk, I guess. I'll keep the Firestick for now, but I must say the Roku box was easier to set up.
