No, it isn't a short game
By khuddle on Reviewed in the United States on April 9, 2024
Pros:* Forget the "hey-tahs". It is not a short game. It took me two full weekends (four days) to complete. Is it shorter than Valhalla? Sure. but Valhalla was a mammoth game that quite frankly had a lot filler in it. Mirage by contrast is nicely streamlined.* Graphics are beautiful and Ancient Baghdad is nicely realized. Cutscenes load quickly and look great.* Game emphasizes stealth and discourages open combat. This is what differentiates it from Valhalla and Oddessey and makes it a fresh new experience.* New tool system, complete with tool enhancements, is very cool.* Contract Quests are interesting with nice bonus rewards.Cons* Skill tree is kind of sparse. Reminds me of the original Horizon Zero Dawn skill tree. Should have been beefed up a little.* Game ending is weird and will leave most players befuddled and bored. But all in all, a nice addition to the AC franchise. It could have used a more elaborate skill tree, and I wish the main quests had stealth bonus rewards like the contract quests did. But other than that a fun experience.8 out 10 for me.

Not up to historic standards
By J. R. Yaeger on Reviewed in the United States on October 7, 2023
I’m only ten hours into the gameplay, but so far very disappointed. Two points in particular: the lack of any story/plot and the drab landscape which is an endless sea of mud and brick houses. Both are points that added body and character to historic AC games. Other annoyances include the unintelligible whiny narrator (which I turned off) and the distracting foreign text in the subtitles. At this point, the game is just a simple kill-or-be-killed journey which I hope improves before I get bored.ADDED 2 WEEKS LATER: Well...I ignored my initial concern and picked at it until finished, hoping it might finally live up to the excellence of its predecessors. Didn't happen. Repetition flourished (just go kill the next guy) with little variation other than the Arabic names which were impossible to remember. The ending in the temple was a disaster culminating in ten minutes of rambling gibberish. All that said, there was one high point. The short side quests picked up in the Hidden-One's bureau were different and challenging.
