Amazingly, it's the real thing!
By JOSHUA on Reviewed in the United States on March 4, 2024
I was STUNNED that an Apple product on Amazon, as shipped, is actually genuine and not a fake, but... it really is a genuine Apple MagSafe adapter. It's the new kind, not the old fat chunky kind, which means one end is USB-C and the other end is the wide slimline magnetic connector. The cable is a supple, very soft and flexible braided fabric just like the one that came with your laptop. Like the cable that came with your laptop, it's *super annoyingly short,* and barely reaches from the wall to wherever you're sitting, if it reaches at all, so be aware that you probably need a USB-C extension cable. There is at least one if not a few that work with this. The magnet is nice and strong, probably stronger than the old original MagSafe type that was on the old laptops. It's definitely stronger than the fake MagSafe adapters you can buy. I'm very happy with the magnet strength, and it's much harder than ever to accidentally knock the connection loose. While the price is a total ripoff, it's way too expensive, that's just what you are going to pay when you buy a genuine Apple cable. Unfortunately, the knockoffs haven't caught up in quality to the point where it's worth buying the cheap stuff yet.

Just pay the Apple Tax
By team W on Reviewed in the United States on January 8, 2024
Apple doesn't license its Magsafe technology to other companies, just so it can rob you on stuff like this. That also means anybody other than Apple trying to sell you one of these is doing it illegally, meaning that they are probably cutting other corners too. And a power cable is not the best place to go cheap, particularly when connecting it to your very expensive Macbook. I move my laptop back and forth between two locations, and figured I could just use a USB-C cable to charge the laptop at one location and avoid the cost of a second Mag-safe cable. Well the laptop slipped one day and the very short fall ended up bending/breaking the USB cord. Unlike the mag-safe cable a USB-C cable won't break away. I realized in that moment that I could have easily damaged the USB-C port or even the computer itself, because I wasn't using a mag-safe connector. So here I am, paying the Apple tax, to get a second mag-safe wire. It probably has $5 worth of materials and the rest is profit for them, but so be it. So be bitter like me about the price of this thing, but pay it.
