Excellent alternative to the SCR3310
By Pedro Vera on Reviewed in the United States on June 9, 2025
I have been using the SCR3310 for about 11 years The first one lasted 8 years, the second one died after three. And it wasn't trouble-free (weak cable, unstable drivers) so I had to switch to a different brand. Got the ZOWEETEK about a week ago. Installation on Windows 11 was initially a non-issue, but either Windows, ActivClient or Chrome, or all three, decided to be difficult but removing it through device manager and re-detecting it did the trick. Usage: I have been using it to authenticate on VPNs and websites. I am yet to run into an issue that could be traced back to the reader. It has exactly one downside: the tiny cable. Notice that in my photo I am using a USB-C coupler (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CTT1FJL6) because my other alternative would be to let it hang from either one of the ports in my workstation or monitor. But ... this may also be a good thing, since it means less cable to break. It's also a fingerprint magnet, but so is everything else that is plastic and black. Would I pick this over yet one more SCR3310? Yup, every time.

One lasted 3 days. One lasted 3 hours.
By Monica on Reviewed in the United States on June 10, 2024
I purchased two of these at one time because I've learned most of these card readers only last about 6 months and they go out without warning. Since I need them to do my job, I like to have one on backup. Anyway, the first one lasted about 3 days. On the third day, it just wouldn't light-up for no apparent reason and was dead! I immediately got the second one out. It was fine at first. After about 3 hours, I unplugged it from one side of my computer to move it to the other side to make room for my charger. When unplugging it, the metal part pulled away from the plastic part and...it was dead! It should not have been this "flimsy" and easy to brake. My next issue is I had trouble getting a refund because it had been more than 30 days since I purchased them. I didn't use them right away because I purchased them for "backup." They finally agreed to give me a credit for 80%, so I was only out for 20%. When I returned them, I wrote on them with Sharpie that they are defective, so hopefully they are not resold.
