Found missing ring
By BAndrews on Reviewed in the United States on June 11, 2025
Always wanted one…you know, for the grandkids (wink wink). So when my neighbor told me her kid lost a gold tring on the lawn, I had my excuse. The detector arrived the same day, my wife assembled it, and I marked out some suspect spots. The neighbor’s husband came home first and quickly found the ring, using the detector. It has a jewelry setting that helps discern out other metals, and is loud enough that you don’t need the (included) headphones. It also breaks down easily for storage in the zippered canvas bag. Also, it was lighter than I expected, and included a nifty digging knife that could double for use in the garden. Can’t wait to show the grandkids, heh, heh.

Good beginners model,,,
By T Civitello on Reviewed in the United States on September 13, 2024
I have over 30 plus years of metal detecting and tried many different models over the years so I consider myself an expert,,, This will be an honest review of the Dr Otek MT XR,,This is their latest model which I will explain later,, So I actually took it to my local Beach to try out this is a saltwater beach by the way,, In the dry sand the detector actually perform quite well even at full sensitivity and all metal mode although it started beeping a lot on iron so I opted to put it in jewelry mode and knocked out iron I was able to find targets up to 7 in deep on coin size targets deeper on larger targets like a soda can ,,but one thing to consider with this machine it has a very slow processor you cannot swing this detector fast or you will have trouble with Target ID,, I proceeded to try it near the wet sand unfortunately the detector had a very difficult time with Target ID and falsing a lot,,, If you're serious about hunting the saltwater sand and water this is not the detector for you ,,,You will have to spend a great deal more money to have a machine to compensate for that,, Moving back up to the dry scene I proceeded to use the machine more there getting back to what I said about this newer model the pinpoint function unfortunately they switched it to a no motion pinpoint versus the VCO pinpoint that was used on their first models the pinpoint functions well but I prefer the VCO pinpoint to me it was a little bit more accurate,, Battery life seems good I spent most of the morning detecting and only one bar went down on the battery indicator but you have to be careful if you use the pinpoint function a lot it will drain the battery faster,, Headphone use will extend battery life longer,, Overall I would say this is a very good detector for a beginner that's not sure about the hobby,, lt is very lightweight that's a plus you can swing it all day,, it's pretty much user friendly not many buttons to worry about or push,, Just keep in mind that budget detectors like this one their recovery speed and processor speed it's not going to be superior as a more expensive detector you have to go slow with these machines to get the best results,, I would suggest if getting this machine start out in default settings ,,this way you can get used to how the machine responses to targets ,,, Good luck,,
