Gorgeous picture, amazing sound!

The last TV I had was a 1080P and upgrading to the Sony 55" XR55A80J BRAVIA XR OLED 4K Ultra HD Smart Google TV I can say that it is such a huge difference that it’s nothing less than amazing. Between the picture/sound quality and the features just wow! That said lets dig into this awesome TV! In the box/initial setup: First things first, the TV was very well packaged and easily removed from packaging for setup. I love how Sony made removal from the packaging easy by using a sleeved system by which you cut the straps and tear down the side at the perforations allowing super easy access. All in all the TV weighs what seems to be 40-45lbs and as such is easy to move even by a single person as I did. After removing a few more protective items we were able to attache the feet (which have several modes of attachment) and set the TV on the location we chose. Attaching the Blueray player, cable box, and surround system was of course super easy. Wifi and initial setup was easy using the on screen prompts and the google home app on my tablet which we already had in use. Next the app setup for vudu, Netflix, Prime video, Disney plus and Spotify were quick and easy. We also added VLC player to access the movies we have on our home Samba drive. Use/Quality: As for picture quality it is simply incredible. Everything we play whether DVD or Blueray looks stunning with the upscaling and as for true 4k we don’t have anything at that level yet, but with what we see on our existing setup it will be amazing! The contrast is the best black we have seen on any TV so far. Side note: the TV comes with Bravia Core which is a streaming service that from what we understand has true 4k content, so we are looking forward to seeing 4k on this TV. As for sound quality we tried it both WITH and WITHOUT our current surround sound system and man, the sound quality from the TV by itself is just awesome! You really can get by without a surround system but with what we are hearing out of the TV we will be upgrading our surround sound to a Sony soundbar soon. App usage is fast and lag-less, as for the voice control it flawlessly recognizes what we say correctly. Final thoughts on the BRAVIA XR OLED 4K Ultra HD TV are again one word, WOW! I really can’t stress enough the picture and sound quality of this TV. Not to mention it having no lag on menu and apps screens. Sony did this right which is what I expect from Sony. This TV is truly the top of the line in my book at a great price!

Fine TV if you are lucky and don't need any customer service whatsoever!
By Amazon Customer on Reviewed in the United States on December 21, 2021
The picture quality if fine. I don't "game", so that is not an issue. But like many other reviewers, the potential for programming and network glitches are fairly high. If this happens, you are in deep trouble because tech-support apparently does not exist - only poor "customer service reps" armed with mind-numbing scripts. I've wasted literally 25 hours of my time trying to deal with tech problems, and customer service merely added to the frustration. I encountered two issues: (1) The voice command of the remote only works if you first install GoogleTV. So, I meticulously followed the TV's instructions several times to connect GoogleTV to my wifi using my iPhone (after downloading Google Home), but it simply would not connect to my network. So, it was necessary to make the connection by entering the needed info (wifi key etc using the TV remote - very time-consuming. And despite installing, uninstalling, and reinstalling Google TV twice (took a couple of hours because I had to enter it using the remote), the remote voice control is still useless. It will turn the TV on and off but that's all! Won't change channels nor even adjust volume. Worthless. (2) Every couple of days, the TV somehow loses connectivity with my wifi. Note that all other devices in my home remain connected and I never have connectivity problems with any of them. Indeed, I can still cast Netflix, Apple TV, and whatever else I want from my MAC using Chromecast, which I inserted into HDMI 2 - just as I previously did with my old dumb TV. Of course, whenever I lose wifi connectivity to the TV (even though all other devices remain connected and even though the TV itself tells me the signal is "excellent"), I try turning off/on the router, unplugging/replugging the TV etc. Nothing works. But if I simply wait a few days, the TV will reconnect itself! Naturally, I called "customer service" and spoke with a very nice woman in India. She was a little hard to understand, but very courteous. Unfortunately, she understood virtually nothing about the product, nor the issues I was encountering. She did her best to read through her interminable script and lead me through about 50 meaningless steps like changing the batteries of the remote (TV was 3 weeks old). When I asked to speak with an actual tech support person, she said she was the only one who could "help me." She also declined to allow me to speak with a supervisor. To add insult to injury, one of the first questions the customer service lady asked was for my phone number, "in case we are disconnected." Of course, after about an hour of going though her meaningless script, we did get disconnected and she did NOT call back. Obviously they collect our phone numbers for personal salable data - not to call back! So, as several other reviewers lamented, what am I supposed to do now? I guess my only recourse is to start calling Amazon.
