Not for audiophiles. Bass is very one-note. Has some annoying behavior.

I shouldn't have expected a miracle in such a cheap little speaker, but the reviews were so good that I kinda was. It has solid bass sound, and good mids and highs. My chief complaint is that the bass is very "one note". There's a very narrow band of frequencies that are *super* resonant. (I haven't tried to figure out the exact frequency it resonates at.) You'll hear a bass line in some rock music and the notes in ascending scale will be: "super quiet, normal, SUPER LOUD, normal, normal". So you keep hearing the same one note emphasized over and over again! It'll be twice as loud as any other note, and ruins certain songs. The bass also falls off extremely fast below 75 Hz, and you'll hear almost nothing below 65 Hz. The lowest bass string (on a 4-string), the E string, plays at 41 Hz open. You won't hear it, nor will you hear the next several notes. I mostly bought this to listen to white noise while I sleep. I actually listen to what's called Brownian noise, which isn't as tinny as white noise; it has a more natural noisy sound, like a waterfall. I also use "deep brown noise" which is smoothed a bit to emphasize the lower frequencies. It's good for blocking out the sounds of traffic and construction so I can sleep. The one-note bass characteristic of this speaker makes it pretty bad for this purpose, since I keep hearing this chaotic "beat" in the mid-bass frequencies since it really overemphasizes those notes. 😖 A proper fix would be built-in equalization that lowers the power for those frequencies where is resonates. Another really annoying problem: Modern devices tell a BT speaker what volume it should play at, and changing the volume on your device sets the speaker's internal volume level. It's normal for your music to pause when you get out of range of the speaker. What's not normal with this speaker is when you get back in range and unpause, the speaker will be at FULL VOLUME! Some phones will (sometimes) unpause themselves automatically when they reconnect. I've left the room and my music paused, then apparently walked slightly back in range, and heard my music in the other room unpause at full volume... in a shared space! This is terrible because I might not even be able to hear it. It should remember the last volume it was set to, but it doesn't. Horrible! My least favorite behavior is the auto-power off. Even when it's still connected to your phone and *plugged in*, if your music stops, it will auto power off after 10-15 minutes since nothing is playing. If I fall asleep to some music, 15 minutes after the music stops, this thing will play an annoying shutdown sound and wake me up! It's at full power and plugged in. Why is it shutting down at all!? And why play an annoying tone when powering off? The manufactures of this speaker clearly don't understand this common usage scenario.
