Best Battery Life EVER
By Jason Z. on Reviewed in the United States on October 23, 2020
I bought this phone for my Mother. She's always out running around and her old phone just couldn't keep up. She also is constantly taking video and pictures of my little Nephew. Her old phone would commonly be out of juice before the event she was documenting was finished, such as a trip to the Zoo etc. She'd often text me and inform me she was turning off her phone to conserve power. I thought this was unacceptable, she might need her phone for an important incoming call, or need to make an emergency outgoing call and with a dead battery this was a risk. So I set out to find a phone that could keep up with her. I found this Moto G Power and after watching many many reviews I decided to try it out. It was on sale during Prime Day so I couldn't pass up the deal, plus the return policy is always awesome so no real risk. This phone was way better than I excepted for the price. I myself always buy the Flagship level phones, and this one has made me think twice about spending all that money. This budget level phone is very impressive, it runs Android 10 currently, is a 2020 model, and the battery life is amazing. I gave it to my Mother and she was blown away, first that I spent the money on her, and later because of how long the battery lasted. I suggested to her that she let the battery drain down from 100% to see how long it would last to ensure it was as good as advertised. Well we were more than impressed. She texted me daily and gave me the battery percentage and it incredible. The phone went an entire week, 7 days, and it was still at 36%. Her old phone would die before the end of a single day. Now I will note that she didn't do a lot of videos and Picture that week, but used it for text messaging and some phone calls. She indicated that her old phone wouldn't even make it a full day with that lite use. Even my iPhone, doesn't get more than 2 days with lite use and it has a new battery. The phone is also snappy and more than enough for the typical phone user, even the camera took wonderful photos and video. It has so many features for the price, I thought they sent the wrong phone. LOL Anyways, this phone is great if you want battery life. The only down side is that is a little heavy because of the large battery. If you don't care about getting the flagship or are on a budget, then this phone is for you. It also might be good for a first phone for a responsible child. Its not the cheapest phone, but its a good mix of budget cost, and still a great looking phone.

This is my 3rd Motorola phone after G4 and G7 Power and I was really excited about the upgrade. I really like the G7 Power phone and after a year of use the battery still lasts be between 2 and 2.5 days and that includes lots of streaming and screen time. The battery life paired with rapid charging is one of the huge pluses of the phone. No longer have to worry about charging the phone all the time and even when the battery degrades over time it will take a long time before it ends up in a day range. The reason I wanted to upgrade was better higher res screen, better camera, more memory when switching between apps (hate tabs unloading and then reloading in browsers with G7 3GB). The G8 is nicely executed as a package, but at least my unit had some major issues which turned out to be showstoppers. Pros: 1) Battery size / life. This size of the battery is truly a game changer. I always had issue running out of power at the worst possible time. Had to keep a battery bank and car chargers handy and keep remembering to charge it. With the G7 and G8 Power I no longer worry about it. I can run the phone with good amount of use for 2-3 days and quick charge when needed. 2) Price, what can I say $200 or less for what this delivers? 3) Nice looking phone, weight and size and finish for the price 4) High res screen (see the color issue below) 5) Speed, for normal use with no heavy gaming the phone is plenty quick and responsive 6) Camera, while not comparing to the high end phones, for the price it is a quite decent camera with good pics in low light situations Cons: 1) Headset and Speaker consistently cuts in and out during calls. This is in varies locations, people called and times. I even factory reset the phone to confirm it is not one of the apps and the issue remains. This is absolutely a show stopper. I understand most people do not experience this but there are quite a few people reporting this on the web. I waited for a few software updates thinking it will be fixed but no luck. I need a phone I can actually talk tom people and they can hear and understand me. Hopefully you will get a phone that will not have this issue. 2) For some reason I'm having hard time with the keyboard, it keeps not registering key presses and loosing letters etc. I keep having to correct what I type. No issue on G7 Power at all. I checked all the settings trying to fix this. 3) Battery life, while the new phone has really good battery life, with same usage I get at least 4-6 hours more runtime on the now 1 year old G7 Power. I did read that the new model drains more battery which with the faster CPU and higher res screen makes sense. Still a bit disappointing being spoiled by the earlier model. 4) Screen, was really excited to get a higher resolution newer screen. It really looked off in terms of colors, a bit faded with green tint. I compared side by side to the G7 model with same pictures and video and its night and day. Yes, the G8 has higher resolution but the colors are way off. Just looking at it alone was ok but side by side is a huge difference. The older G7 looks superior in terms of color reproduction. I did try to adjust saturation even installed apps that add filters etc but could not correct the issue. 5) The included charger is not the fastest. Get aftermarket quality Qualcomm 3.0 quick charger and you will be amazed how quickly this phone charges. In the end I really wanted to love this phone and was looking forward to it. With the issues mentioned above I just could not justify keeping it and decided to return while I still could and just go back to the earlier model which is still running strong. Maybe I give a new G9 Power a try or find some other large battery capacity options.
