Much better than the Google chromecast!!
By Danielle on Reviewed in the United States on December 9, 2020
I love my new fire stick! Ive had it for just about 2 weeks and it works great! I included a picture of the box that looked a little beat up when I opened the package, but everything inside was perfectly fine. I purchased this after returning a Google chromecast on Amazon and leaving a pretty bad review. Thankfully, the purchase of the Amazon Fire TV Stick Lite worked out much better. I purchased the Lite option for a few dollars less than the price of the original Fire TV Stick option. The only difference is that the Lite does NOT have a power button or a volume control. I don't think this is too inconvenient, but it might have been worth the extra few dollars just to have everything in one. Keep in mind that there are a lot of different streaming services offered on the Fire TV (netflix, Disney+, CBS all access, YouTube, etc) but while most of the available apps are free to download, most of them require a subscription to actually use. With that being said, there is a "free" tab on the home screen that gives options to watch for free WITH ads. If you don't subscribe to any streaming services though, and don't like ads/commercials, this device probably won't be of much use to you. I have an Amazon Echo 1st generation, and was easily able to connect it to my new fire stick in the Alexa app. As you can see in the video, there is a few seconds delay, but it works pretty well (and I rested the remote on the TV so you can see that it really is the Alexa taking control) Although there is no power button on the remote, the TV did shut off when I said "Alexa turn off my TV" but it did not turn back on when I said "Alexa turn on my TV". The Echo did not respond to volume commands pertaining to the TV. It's not a total loophole, but being able to turn the TV off is a little extra since I expected to exclusively need my TV remote to control power and volume. Either way, it was easy set up and provides convinient handsfree watching. Pressing and holding the microphone button on the remote while speaking allows all of the same voice commands as the Echo, without needing to say "Alexa", and the delay is significantly LESS than when using the Echo. The commands that I have discovered and used so far are: open an app; play a movie/show/song (if you don't specify which app, it will give you your options, or you can specify which app in the original command); turn off the TV; play/pause; skip/rewind; what time is it?; What's the news?; Home; open settings. There are also suggested voice commands that pop up at the bottom of the home screen every now and then if you just leave the home screen open. The remote takes 2 AAA batteries, and 2 were included, so that was nice to not have to go get any separately. A small extension cord is included incase things are cramped around your HDMI port and you can't have the Fire Stick pointing straight out. I did not need this, but it seems like an important feature to make sure noone has any trouble setting the device up. Overall, this is a great device and has made streaming very easy. It works well and I would highly recommend it.

Never I have written so many BAD reviews for a product
By JF on Reviewed in the United States on March 31, 2023
Photos: all 4 of my sticks do the same thing: I am just shocked at the reviews saying that this product is so wonderful. attached are 4 pictures. I have added only one app to the stick: the paramount app. All of the rest of the apps on the stick are amazon apps, they come pre-installed and are unremovable. I only installed the paramount app and look how out of the 8GB of space reported on the details for buying the stick: look at how much memory is left after installing only one app. On top of this the stick constantly freezes and so I have to go in and repeatedly delete memory cache. This works for a couple of hours and then I have to start all over. All four of the sticks I bought do the same thing. Now to be fair to amazon maybe it is the paramount app. I did remove the paramount app and install ONLY the netflix app and has far less of a problem (but again I only put that one app on the stick). I will say this though I bought and set up a roku stick for my friend who has a REALLY old TV and she does not have any of these problems. If this is a quality control issue it would seem strange that I have problems with all of my sticks. SECOND update: Ignore any review that suggests that you buy this stick if are looking to get rid of your cable provider. FORGET it as this stick could NEVER handled the apps you would need to get rid of your cable provider. Don't be fooled like I was. When I bought the first firestick lite I only wanted to add netflix to TVs in our guest rooms and kitchen. I was so impressed with it running only Netflx that I bought three more. WHAT A PIECE OF JUNK this has turned out to be! Do not be guided by any review that suggest using this stick if you are looking to get rid of your cable. This stick which lists having 8GB of memory comes loaded with over 3 GB of amazon programs that you can't remove. So you have in reality about 5 GB of memory. The minute I added Paramount App and apps to watch CBS, NBC and ABC ansd some cable news the stick constantly crashed and constantly caused me to uninstall an app in order to be able to run another. DO NOT FOR A MINUTE think you can use this stick and give up your cable as you need a much better performing stick. IF all you want to do is add say netflix and a couple of small apps to the stick then this is fine but other than that this stick is a piece of junk, not worth it and in NO WAY should be the stick to buy if you plan on giving up cable. NO way. I wish so much now that I could return all of my fire stick lights. IT is crazy to constantly have to be uninstalling one app in order to be able to use another: Good luck as I can't put Netflix and Paramount and Disney app on the same stick without always having to uninstall one app in order to be able to use another. What a sad disappointment this turned out to be. I am so sorry now that I bought more than one of these based upon the original experience of only putting Netflix on the stick. It is useless for any real life substitute for cable. BUy something else! UPDATE - THE GOOD AND THE BAD: the attempt to increase space for the Firestick Lite So I did buy OTG cables and Sandisk USB 3.0 32 GB drives to attach to the OTG cables: The GOOD: though the cables that I bought came with absolutely zero instructions on their use with the fire stick: it was relatively easy to figure out. The setup was a little bit less straight forward than the connection process. However I did figure out how to use the cables and the USB drives to Successfully create additional "internal" memory for the firestick. Just as an FYI you have the option of creating extended internal memory or extended external memory. Only "internal" memory can be used to store more apps: that was my goal since these sticks are terrible in having enough memory to download and use apps. (note setting up the usb as "external memory" is more for storing things like music and pictures and movies etc. THE BAD: NO THE HORRIBLE ACTUALLY: After buying enough cables and USBs for my 4 firesticks (remember I bought the firestick light due to cost so all these work arounds ending up costing me even more) and after being excited about the fact that I was in fact able to create more extended INTERNAL memory to compensate for the pathetically small amount of memory on this firestick it turns out that very few of the apps I use (like the paramount apps and Netflix app) do NOT allow themselves to be MOVED to the USB's internal extended memory. So far only TWO of my apps allowed/provided an option their menus to move them to the USB drive. One interesting/technical fact to share even if someone is NOT trying to increase the amount of available space/memory for the lite stick: It looks like one of the problems that developed with my 4 sticks was that when I installed my last stick I actually elected selected the option that is offered when you install the stick that asks if you want the stick to share the backup data of your other sticks. It resulted in a mess I think. I ended up having to take all 4 sticks and do a "factory reset" on ALL of them. Conclusion: to me the fire stick is not worth it. IF I could start all over I would go with Roku. Amazon has its hands in every other company's products. If Amazon is going to give this paltry amount of memory when apps are getting so large then for me I can only hope that in the future large apps like paramount app and netflix are designed to allow them to be moved to extended memory. Don't waste your money on this product unless you are not going to rely heavily on the stick. Phew that was a lot. I had bought two of these and was so thrilled with it because the only app I had put on it was netflix. I was so excited how it worked that I bought two more Now I set up the two new ones and tried to add the paramount and Pluto app to all 4 sticks. Now all sticks continually stop playing displaying a message saying critical storage low. remove applications but you can't remove any of the amazon junk. Amazon packs the stick with all these amazon apps and NONE of them can be removed. So not only do you have low storage to start with but you I am shocked. I love amazon but now I think this company with all its billions does not care about its customers. I thought I was getting a great dealing paying a low price for the firestick lite but NOW I have got to figure out if there is a way with this version of the stick to buy cables and USB drives to extend the memory Amazon this is terrible: next time I will buy Roku. I can't believe that now I will have to buy (if it works) four OTG cables to create USB port access and then buy 4 usb drives. Hey Amazon I guess you are not rich enough and so you have to cost your customers even more. So disappointed
