Thanks Viewsonic for a cheap 3d projector
By Mr. Fish on Reviewed in the United States on January 20, 2023
For the money, this is a really feature-packed projector. I was looking for a projector that has 3d support. Most of the cheaper projectors, the "bluetooth" ones don't support it. I couldn't understand why they had every other feature, but didn't add 3d in. However, this Viewsonic projector does support 3d and it looks really great. As far as the usual projector stuff, this projector has decent brightness -- it looks ok even in a room that isn't pitch dark (we had a few lamps on). It looks nice in a dark room. If you're looking for a super bright picture in a bright room, you might want to consider a larger, more expensive projector. As far as 3d, to produce a 3d image you need three things. A projector (like this one) that supports 3d and projects the 3d image, you need a player that can play 3d disks (I bought an LG Bluray player that plays 3d disks) and you need 3d glasses. For glasses, I've seen a few people say you need to buy the Viewsonic PG-something glasses. Well, those glasses don't appear to be made anymore. However, don't worry, you just need to buy any regular old active shutter glasses that are for DLP projectors. Buy one of the brands that say they support all kinds of DLP projectors--this Viewsonic won't be in their supported list, but they will work with this projector. I had a little difficulty with the glasses, probably because I was turning them on incorrectly. But, if you mess with them, you'll get it.Also, another nice thing about this little projector is the sound. Wow! Its very impressive for such a little box. Its good enough to use to watch a movie, unless you're really after that thunderous sound of a movie theater, then you could explore the bluetooth option and connect a bluetooth speaker to this projector. There's a few things I don't like. First, if you use the built in arm as a base, on mine at least, the display is crooked. Also, the projector is so light that the HDMI cable will move it. So, to get the projector properly placed, you need to mess with the HDMI cable or even tape the cable down to the table where your projector is. I mostly solved the problem by attaching a tripod to the projector -- your tripod will just screw into the bottom of the projector. A pretty cool feature. It does have the ability to play movies from micro SD cards and external hard drives. I haven't messed with any of those. Its also connects to WiFi--that went very smoothly for me. That's nice in case there are any firmware updates, you can get them instantly over WiFi.So, overall, this is a really great budget projector with alot of features. One of its biggest strengths is that it supports 3d--very, very rare in this price range.

Great small/portable projector with glaring flaw Viewsonic will not fix
By Arkaium on Reviewed in the United States on October 28, 2020
I hate to do this, because this was the perfect bedroom/portable projector for me.- Build quality is terrific, and it looks great.- Alexa/smart features are a treat - I love being able to turn it on and off from in bed, without the remote.- Resolution is great, video quality solid, color reproduction nice (a bit oversaturated but I don't mind), and they fixed the forced frame smoothing/interpolation with the 0.57 update.- Integrated speakers are loud enough and quality is OK. Won't blow you away despite the harmon/kardon name, but solid for integrated.- Remote is flakey but I've used flakier. It gets the job done.- Includes a carrying case, which I appreciate.- NO built-in battery, which I PREFERRED, because my last portable projector started to bulge when the battery went bad, rendering the entire thing useless. I LOVED this about the projector.- Connectivity options are good. I would've loved ONE more HDMI port, but I'm using a simple unpowered 2-input switch and it works fine, though I have to go reach for it.Now for why I'm putting one star on this review...I discovered what I consider a HUGE issue with this projector that Viewsonic has CONFIRMED will NOT be fixed via firmware update. If you use 4 Corner Adjustment of Keystoning (for the latter, at least the horizonal keystone) - the framerate of ALL content, the video input itself, drops to something that feels super erratic. It's stuttery and juddery... It sucks. And this is a BIG selling point of the projector, as you'll see even on this product page. They claim you can put the projector off to the side and it'll auto keystone and look great, when in fact, the performance of the video becomes frustratingly poor. While my main use case for this projector was video viewing, don't even consider video games if you're planning to use the keystoning/4 corner at all. The erratic frame rate is even more noticable on games that employ smooth scrolling or require fast reaction times from the player.Absolutely gutted by this. This was everything I wanted for in-bed media consumption, but it's got this critical flaw, and Viewsonic told me they very likely wouldn't address until a new model.BUYER BEWARE: If you're planning to buy this to project from the side, even a bit, and if you're sensitive to inconsistent or lower-than-intended frame rates on content, this is NOT the projector for you.
