There’s one deal breaker for me (updated review)
By Roger Earl on Reviewed in the United States on September 29, 2020
Anker’s Soundcore products sound amazing for the price. But I always seem to have some sort of issues with their earbuds. The first pair I owned and only one I’ve kept were the Spirit X’s. I need truly wireless now that I’m biking, so since I loved the sound of the Spirit X’s (and after trying the Liberty 2 Air’s and those not working out for me) I thought I couldn’t go wrong with a pair of earbuds in the Spirit product line. These do sound great. They don’t have as punchy of a bass that the Spirit X’s do, but it still is nice. The Spirit Dot 2’s are also comfortable. Not quite as comfortable as the X’s, but they don’t hurt my ears while inserted like the Liberty 2 Air’s did. I’ve read people didn’t like the touch controls on the Spirit Dot 2’s, but they haven’t been a problem for me, they work well. Now for the deal breaker. It cuts out for maybe about a half a second almost every song. Sometimes it’ll be once every few songs, but usually it’s once a song. I tried resetting the earbuds by tapping the earbuds while in the case 5 times till the lights turn red, but it didn’t fix the issue. There would be some other random sound issues like one would go out for a second while the other would be out for half a second. It’s just weird stuff like that and also while using them with Amazon app open, then closing out of it, the sound for stop for about 2 seconds, which isn’t much of an issue for me because I use them to work out or while I’m at work not using my phone except for music. I’ve also heard the humming noise once, but that was while no music was playing. But the main issue is the sound cutting out every song, so I’ll be returning these, possibly exchanging them for another paid since maybe this unit is just faulty, because otherwise these are great. FYI there isn’t noise cancellation, so I don’t know why there’s a review option for that. Update: Anker’s fantastic customer service reached out to me and sent me a replacement. I haven’t had cutout issues with it. I love it.

A rare miss from Soundcore
By K. Wagaman on Reviewed in the United States on April 29, 2022
It pains me to write this review as I am a huge Anker / Soundcore fan. Our house is full of Anker chargers and batteries. My Soundcore Q30 headphones are great and my Soundcore Spirit (AK-A3403011) earbuds were a tank - lasting four years through sweaty runs before finally giving in. The problems of the Soundcore Spirit Dot 2 are twofold: 1. They have been dumbed-down. A. There is no way to control volume on the earbuds. Not a big deal if you have a smartwatch and can do it there I suppose. B. They can’t be powered on or off without the case. C. They don’t integrate with the Soundcore app. Soundcore has a great app that I use to fine tune and update my Q30 headphones. Why can’t it see these earbuds? These things aren’t dealbreakers necessarily as long as the earbuds work properly - which brings us to the second pain point: 2. Reliability. A. On 2/4 of my runs with these earbuds, the left earbud has powered down on me mid-run. This was with a fully-charged battery. As there is no way to turn them on without the case, this left me running miles only able to hear my incredible playlist from the right earbud. Unacceptable. B. While out on a dog walk, the right earbud was extremely low volume while the left earbud volume was normal. Again, without the case, without an app, there aren’t many options but to have a subpar listening experience with your favorite podcast. I sweat profusely while running - we’re talking buckets here. My only theory is that these earbuds aren’t the IPX7 waterproof rating that they purport to be. If you read some of the positive reviews here, you’ll notice that they rarely mention running or working out. If you’re looking for a casual-use AirPods alternative, these might be fine. That’s not what I need however. A rare miss from Soundcore / Anker.
