Finally a dash cam I did not return
By Tim Wood on Reviewed in the United States on May 13, 2022
Also, I finally accepted that any dash cam with phone app will compete with Wireless Apple CarPlay. So you have to plug in your iPhone or no CarPlay. That said, the Nextbase 522GW has outstanding 1440p HD video. You do not need to buy their overpriced 128GB Micro SD card, but DO buy a brand name (SanDisk Max Endurance C10, U3, V30, 4K UHD Micro SD Card - SDSQQVR-128G-GN61A). And ... THE SUCTION CUP MOUNT STAYS PUT !!! Can't overemphasize this. I refuse to put adhesive mounts on my 2021 F150 PowerBoost windshield - PLUS - there are times when I want to put the dash cam out of sight. The power cord plugs into the mount and is difficult to unplug, so if I wand to remove the memory card I take the cam and mount in the house. Obviously I also don't play the 'hide the wire' game. The iPhone app is, well, OK. You can download important video clips to the app and store in the Nextbase Cloud (for 30 days). If you want to keep longer, pull the clip off the card and save on your computer. The Nextbase computer app is quite good. I am all Apple, so I can't speak for and PC differences. Bottom line is that you really only want the clips that contain incidents or notable events. The 'Protect' button at the bottom of the camera saves the video clip, as the card will automatically loop and overwrite when it reaches capacity. The default video clip is 1 minute, and can be changed. You can check current card memory status and format the card via the iPhone app. One other note, I live in Houston Texas and my truck lives in the driveway. The cam stays on my windshield almost always, so it experiences EXTREME heat. After 1 month I have had no issues. I'm an Apple guy, so I don't use the Alexa feature, nor do I care about recording parking mode incidents. But, if you want a dash cam that is reliable with a quality video to catch that one idiot that pulls right out in front of you - this one is a good choice.

Huge Regret!
By Teresa T on Reviewed in the United States on May 19, 2022
2023, Last Update: After messaging with NextBase customer support they believe the battery has gone bad on my dash cam. But due to the fact that I purchased it over a year ago they are unable to do a product replacement. They did offer me 10% off in THEIR online store, which if the battery only lasts a year & is non-replaceable, why would I want to give $400-$500 on something that I got for under $300 on a Black Friday Special. Trust me, don’t buy this brand, save yourself the trouble & research other brands to see what’s the best! 2022 Update: I purchased the NextBase brand of SD card & formatted it like suggested by them, and now I own a few hundred dollars worth of car window art. Nothing has been filmed or saved, I also can’t open my dash cam while in the car, I have to bring it inside & plug it in to my old laptop, because it’s not compatible with my Macbook, to change the settings. At this rate I think it’s a lesson learned & I’ll find a new dash camera. I purchased this camera after all the glowing reviews & should have done more research on it, but hey a Black Friday deal is hard to pass up. I bought a new car in November & decided having a camera would be a good idea. 6 weeks after buying my car someone backed in to it, but I have no dash cam footage because the unit turned itself off. This camera constantly, and I mean CONSTANTLY, turns itself off & on, to the point I’m so use to the sound I tune it out but it annoys any passengers with me. I did purchase a SD card that is not NextBase branded, because I was unaware the camera did not have the card with it. You would think for the price we pay for these the company would put one in the box as a thank you, but no, they sell them separately & at about 3x’s the price you pay for a SanDisk one. Apparently the company has stated through other reviews on the internet that if you don’t have one of their SD cards your camera won’t work right. I also struggle getting the app to work properly, even when sitting in my car & both the camera and my phone are connected to WiFi. Plus, it’s a pain that I have to take the SD card out & delete locked videos on my computer because it’s too hard to try and do it from the camera. Save yourself the money, find a different dash cam because I do NOT recommend this one until they start making them compatible with their own app & also any brand of SD card. It’s too late to return mine now, which I should have done after my car was hit & no footage exists, but regrets happen. Oh, the picture quality & suction power are fine, but the summer heat coming up will let me know how good the camera stays mounted to my windshield.
