Great Detector, But You’ll Need to Tweak the Settings
By simon on Reviewed in the United States on November 9, 2025
The Uniden R7 has incredible range and accuracy it easily spots radar from far away and the directional arrows make it simple to locate the source. GPS lockouts, red-light, and speed camera alerts all work well. That said, you need to adjust the settings after setup. Out of the box, it’ll beep at nearly every traffic light or sensor, which gets annoying fast. Once you turn off unnecessary bands and set GPS lockouts for regular routes, it becomes much quieter and more reliable. After tuning it properly, it’s one of the best radar detectors out there just be ready to spend a few minutes customizing it.

Returning this item, lack of confidence with customer service and gatekeeping product updates
By TARA on Reviewed in the United States on December 21, 2025
I'm returning this item, I'll be brief on my reasons why. Nothing here is a surprise, as I've reached out to Uniden "Customer Service" directly several times and it reaffirmed that this being my first radar detector product ever, I made a bad choice choosing this product and from Uniden it looks like. Their customer service twice sent me misinformed instructions for my product as if it were a more basic product, mentioning I didn't have features that I clearly did have available with the Uniden R7. Then, the bigger issue, is me pointing out their R8 clearly has the fix for Chevrolet vehicles related to the constant Ka band false alarm triggering and all they did was mention they are validating it blah blah. I've waited over a month with this product to see if they would release the fix that they clearly already have for the R8, released on the same date as the latest R7 update which did not include it...see what I'm getting at? It's almost like they want people to become convinced if they pay for the more expensive product it solves their issue and has the features they need to address annoyances too; gatekeeping the updates from lower priced products much, Uniden? What might confirm it to me even more you ask? I can buy the equivalent or lower-feature products from Escort right now and they already address the false alarm triggering. Escort also seems to update their products way more often and way more aggressively. Bye bye Uniden, hello Escort! Just look at the list of R7 updates vs R8 and you'll see the R8 update reading exactly that, on November 3rd: "Applied filtering to remove the Ka 33.750Ghz signal emitted from inside of some Chevrolet cars." Yet here I am with an R7 radar detector and no update to address that annoyance. Uniden quickly lost my trust and I'm not buying another radar detector from them; this is my first and last one from Uniden.
