From Music to Bedtime Stories: How the Echo Flex Revolutionized my Home
By Fadi Shamaan on Reviewed in the United States on May 2, 2023
I recently purchased the Echo Flex - Plug-in mini smart speaker with Alexa, and let me tell you, it has been a game-changer for my household. I was initially skeptical about how useful a plug-in mini speaker could be, but I was pleasantly surprised with its capabilities. The set-up process was a breeze - all I had to do was plug it in and connect it to my Wi-Fi network. Once that was done, Alexa was ready to go. I could already tell that this little gadget was going to be a lifesaver. One of the first things I did was test out its music-playing abilities. I asked Alexa to play my favorite song, and before I knew it, my entire house was filled with music. I was amazed at how such a small device could produce such clear and crisp sound. It was like having a mini-concert in my living room! But that was just the beginning. Alexa proved to be incredibly helpful in my day-to-day life. I could ask her to set reminders, add items to my shopping list, and even tell me jokes. Yes, you heard me right - Alexa can tell jokes. Some of them are actually pretty funny! And when I needed to de-stress, I could ask her to play some calming sounds or guided meditations. But the real magic happened when I discovered Alexa's storytelling abilities. One night, I asked her to tell me a bedtime story, and she did not disappoint. She launched into a hilarious tale about a group of mischievous squirrels who were always up to no good. I was laughing so hard that my stomach hurt. The Echo Flex has also been a lifesaver when it comes to staying organized. As a busy mom, I'm always juggling a million things at once. With Alexa, I can set multiple reminders throughout the day to keep me on track. I've even set up routines that turn on my coffee maker and start playing my morning playlist as soon as I wake up. But it's not just about convenience - the Echo Flex has also been a source of entertainment for my whole family. My kids love asking Alexa to tell them jokes or play their favorite songs. And when we want to have a family game night, Alexa can even host trivia games or play Would You Rather. I have to admit, I was a bit skeptical about the Echo Flex at first. I didn't think a mini speaker could really do all the things it claimed to do. But after using it for just a few weeks, I'm a believer. It's changed the way I approach my daily routine and has even brought a little extra laughter and fun into my home. One thing I do want to note is that the Echo Flex is not as powerful as some of the larger smart speakers on the market. If you're looking for something with super high-quality sound or advanced voice recognition, this may not be the device for you. But if you're looking for a convenient and fun way to incorporate smart technology into your home, the Echo Flex is definitely worth considering. In addition to all of its other features, the Echo Flex also has a wide range of smart home capabilities. I was able to connect it to my smart lights and set up voice-activated commands to turn them on and off. It's so convenient to be able to control my lights without having to get up from the couch! But perhaps the most surprising feature of the Echo Flex has been its ability to help me stay on top of my fitness goals. I've set up routines that remind me to take breaks and stretch throughout the day, and I can even ask Alexa to give me a quick workout if I'm short on time. It's like having a personal trainer right in my home! One thing that really stands out about the Echo Flex is its affordability. At a lower price point than many other smart speakers on the market, it's a great option for anyone who wants to dip their toes into the world of smart technology without breaking the bank. Overall, I cannot recommend the Echo Flex enough. It may be small, but it packs a punch in terms of its capabilities. It's like having a personal assistant, DJ, comedian, and storyteller all rolled into one. If you're in the market for a smart speaker, this one gets a 5 out of 5 stars from me. Trust me, you won't regret it.

disappointing so far.

Two issues with quality. I bought it to mount on an outlet above our kitchen counter (wide open counter area) between two of my echo devices: one Dot 20' away - through a open arch and around a corner and an echo plus 18' away in the opposite direction in an open room but behind a wing wall. I can be facing the Flex from 5' away and either of the other echos in the other rooms will respond before the Flex. I bought the flex because sometimes the other echos can't be heard well depending on sound level set for music, and the make mistakes if not elevating my voice when adding items to list, asking for conversions etc. I basically have to really be close to it to have it work or the music playing on the other two will cut out and respond. It's why I freaking bought it. I have to be 6' away facing it directly. Second the speaker sounds just awful. I mean, I don't play any music on it at all, just the response sounds like a toy. I realize it's cheap, but I'm disappointed. I wish I would have bought a Dot 3 or used Dot 2 with a outlet mounted holder like I did for my garage workbench. Try to save a few bucks and you get what you pay for. Lastly, I thought the add on motion sensor was a cool idea until I read how horrible the reviews are for it after I bought the Flex. At least I saved my money by not buying it as a package. Edit: Apparently my echo flex read my review and decided to be the alpha female on my first floor. Now she will be the responding device if I talk in a normal tone anywhere now on my first floor - even 4' from my other devices when the flex is almost 20' away. Except when I am 5' away from the flex and speaking directly to it, then it ignores me. It has managed to make my wife and I hate it and my two adult children when visiting have told me to get rid of it. Ordered a wall mount for an echo dot 3 that is underutilized on another floor of the house to replace the flex. I'll buy another dot next year on prime day or black Friday. The flex will - I don't know, hide it in the mechanical room in case I want to know what time it is when I change my furnace filter a few times a year.
