Actually works as advertised-updated review
By TS on Reviewed in the United States on March 5, 2019
Bought two of these for work. We've had door locks broken and wanted warning before alarm went off. These do work well even at night. As soon as someone enters field marked the alert goes off. Very nice. Not sure how long the battery will last. It has great features. We can set a schedule, see battery level on phone app, and has nice feature of being able to see what neighbors are reporting. Hoping it will stand up to weather and keep working as well as it does. Super added bonus is I can invite users to share the cameras and alerts. I love this. Only did 4 stars as I haven't given it a long enough test. Only been up a few days. I plan on adding the solar panel feature. UPDATE: After installing solar panels we are now running with full battery level all the time. Without panels we were having to change batteries about every three weeks. Which is simple btw...just unscrew from the bottom But we have a lot of activity because we are a business and I had patrols three times a night. That set it off. Also had another sharing the app. Which by the way is very cool we can do that. I am loving the fact we can check the property any given time and it notifies us whenever there is someone about after hours. I also learned in talking to Ring Support we had the alarm feature so that was fun. I did use it and it worked. I can activate a siren from my phone. It's not a super loud blast but enough to startle someone and run them off. We get a few transients going through the butt cans and I don't care until they dump them on the ground. Grrrr. I got a call from Ring Support which was highly unusual for anyone to contact a purchaser. Normally after you buy no one cares...they have your money. They also sent me info on extending my wifi because I am buying more for the back yard/lot. I can't say enough good things about this system and company. I have spent $$$$$ installing hard wired cameras, one HD system and one SD system, that get heavily pixilated when trying to zoom in and do me no good until after the fact. It is also a pain to have to download video etc for police reports or? This is super simple. Just tap and done. The hard wired systems become quickly outdated due to the speed of technology. Ring supplied the solar panels no charge which after using them has convinced me they belong together and I will purchase solar with the new cameras I add. I'm sure my business associates, family and friends are getting sick of my Ring preaching. I love, love, love these things and the support system behind it. If you are on the fence I encourage you to go for it. Ring exceeded my expectations and I was apprehensive as well. I did cancel my patrol service which saves me a bundle.

Ring battery stick up is not as good as cheaper products by other providers
By Coconut on Reviewed in the United States on July 18, 2019
August 28, 2019 -- ALERT! I have just read that Ring has made a deal with 400 law enforcement agencies to allow them access to our recordings from RING! I don't recall signing away my right to privacy! First, I have 6 other cameras from 4 other manufacturers. My chief complaint about the Ring Stickup is the night vision. It is horrible. It is super granny, and dark. It is hard to make out any objects. I don't know if it is working or not working. Even my 2 cheaper cameras that cost 30 to 40 US dollars have better night vision. My other cameras that are 3 and 2 x more expensive have incredible night vision that can be enabled or disabled. There is no option to enable or disable night vision in the stick up ring app. That being said, it does have an incredible range compared to the other cameras, and the image is very sharp. But there are many more things to dislike about the Ring Stick up. So, here is my list of dislikes because the all my likes have been listed above. Here they are sorted by intolerable to annoying. 1. Person detection: Ring only detects motion. Motion can be anything from car lights shining on a viewed wall to an elephant passing in front of the camera. If the plants my ring is viewing get blown violently by the wind, Ring notifies me. My 3 other expensive cameras - which did not cost as much as the ring - have person detection and motion detection with the ability to enable either one or both. 2. Cell Phone battery usage: If I use my Ring SU with my mobile network, a fully charged battery won't last a day- regardless of how often I access the ring. None of the other cameras effect the cell battery as much as the ring does. 3. Motion sensitivity toggle: This is common with all the cameras; this toggle is only a slider. There is no way to increase sensitivity incrementally with a button, which makes it difficult to hone in the range you want. At least with the other cams, their range range is limited, so it is less critical to the ideal operation of the camera. Ring's range seems infinite in comparison. 4. Date usage: This is not as much an issue with any of my other cameras, and one of them monitors air quality, temperature and humidity. Ring only monitors motion. Ring will use 3x as much as the highest usage on one of the other cameras. That is about 1 GB a day, which has more impact on the battery in mobile data usage than in wifi. I'm not sure why, but that's how my camera rolls. 5. Responding to an alert: For some reason, if I respond directly to an alert, it takes me to a live view. Then, if I want to view the actual recording, I can't do that for several minutes because I am told recording wasn't enabled. This can be very frustrating, and it compromises alert responses. No one wants to notify the authorities without making sure there is a legitimate reason to call. Since Ring alerts are always for motion and not for persons, I get a lot of false alerts when the wind is blowing, and that requires looking at live feed as well as at the recording to determine if there is a cause for alarm. If Ring isn't going to detect Persons, then it is imperative that they allow quick review of the recordings. Too many false ring alerts cause people to dismiss them after a while, or at least not respond quickly enough to prevent a break in. 6. Zone settings: This wouldn't have been a real issue if it wasn't link directly to the Motion Sensitivity settings. In order to modify MSS, you have to go through the Zone settings first. I'm not sure why they have to be linked. They aren't on any of my other cameras and it is annoying. All in all, I do not think that the Ring devices and services should be as expensive as they are. Maybe if they fix some of the complaints I have above, yes, definitely. I am going to take the free subscription, because even the premium services doesn't provide much more in the way of security that I can't provide myself. Two of my other cameras, require a basic subscription to use the Person detection feature. That feature is well worth the price. I'm really sick of getting alerts every time the wind blows my plants around, or a cat walks past the camera, or the lights of passing car hit a viewed wall within range. NOT MY IDEA OF SECURITY!
