*UPDATED* Don’t buy refurbished!
By Theresa Clark on Reviewed in the United States on February 14, 2025
Update 2: the new one ring sent was received in a few days and took all of 3 minutes to have up and working.. it’s been working flawlessly definitely a huge improvement from the doorbell 2…. No more problems in the cold… UPDATE: After posting this review, RING immediately reached out to resolve the issue. Since I had already tried all troubleshooting steps, including resetting the device, checking the WiFi, and confirming that everything was set up correctly and met system requirements with the transformer, she offered to send me a replacement. Although it may take some time to arrive due to the holiday weekend and an expected snowstorm on Tuesday, I truly appreciate RING’s prompt response. Their professionalism, understanding, and kindness did not go unnoticed. I’ll provide another update once I install the replacement! I knew I shouldn’t have brought refurbished supposed to be tested and work right? ……Wrong! I brought the doorbell pro to replace my doorbell 2 that hasn’t worked because of the cold for months! I was really sick of replacing the battery over and over and it not making a difference even though it’s hardwired, however I have had it for years. So I figured even though it’s expensive time to upgrade the doorbell no battery, says it works in cold blah blah blah….. then I say “certified” refurbished and thought great! I can save some money!! I would have rather spent the money and saved myself the aggravation… it comes looking brand new everything packed just like a new one would… I’m super familiar to setting up ring products my whole house is ring… I installed everything the chime, then removed the old doorbell and installed the new one… well damn thing will not connect to my network… doesn’t matter what I do or don’t do! Called ring after doing all the the troubleshooting that they would tell me to do (hard reset etc) on the phone for an hour maybe more followed all the techs instructions and nothing….he requested pictures of the wiring, chime setup and the doorbell transformer, even though I assured him multiple times I knew what I was doing I felt like I was being gender classified as if I didn’t do it right because I’m a woman…. Well, let me tell you I can do almost all “home improvement” and “home repair” all by my little self and better than any man (or most) so anyway after he was literally sent pics that all was don’t CORRECTLY! He wanted me to go outside and disconnect the doorbell meaning uninstall it, at the time it was about 25° out with a colder windchill! So I’m like “seriously can you tell me what that’s going to do because if it wasn’t wired correctly it wouldn’t have power” (and it did) he said something about resetting it a different way… this made zero sense to me but I disconnected the entire doorbell anyway removed the wires from the terminals and held in the button for as long as he told me (he said he would instruct me when to let go of the button, meanwhile I’m questioning how he even knows I’m holding the damn button in the first place, he told me he could see it on his end…. Yeah That’s BS because the damn thing had no power and despite the internal battery if it not going to enter any type of “mode” then it’s not transmitting a signal… so after this what a surprise… nothing happened , and because I have horrible service with my cell phone at my house I dropped the call! There was zero point of me calling back and have to go through all the same BS steps with a completely different “technician” so my last thought was that maybe it was to cold I decided to give it 2 days until the weather was above freezing (in the 40s) still same BS… not even going to try customer service and waste time with someone else who thinks I’m not capable or do not know what I’m talking about because I’m a woman….. now I get to disconnect it all and send it back! I’ll be ordering an non refurbished one and hoping there are zero issues.. (I’ve never had this much trouble with any ring divide and I’ve installed all the components myself, moved took it all with me, then installed them again…… uggg so long story summed up….. spend the extra money and don’t buy refurbished! It’s called refurbished for a reason… there’s a problem with it, likely an internal error that they may or may not have fixed… in my case they did not….

Read this review please! This is real feedback and I hope to shine my light on Ring!

Please DONT buy Ring products. I have been a big supporter of Ring products. I have got my parents, siblings, family and friends to all get Ring products. My wife had me attend a neighborhood watch meeting where I sung the praises of Ring! WELL, shame on me. I wish I had not got all these people into this product. I am heartbroken to say that they have done an injustice to me. My hope is this does not happen to my family and friends too. I won’t hold my breath. So here is the story. I started with a Ring Pro doorbell. I loved having this product and at some point I added a spotlight to my back yard. Things were great, I bought and paid for the premium service which covers my two cameras for video review and if issues arise a replacement. I started telling everyone how great this product was and helping people install Ring in their homes. Just over 18 months ago, my wife and I purchased our first house. I took down my Rings at our rental and moved them to our new home. At this point in time, I called Ring to move my service to the new address. I thought this was done without any issues and was happy to have my cameras at our home. As we began settling in, my wife and I decided to add more cameras to our home. Over the next 6 months or so, we added 3 more flood lights a spot light and 3 stick up cameras. Everything has been great. I continue to tell everyone how happy I am with the Ring. Well, the honeymoon is over. I have recently started having issues with the pro doorbell, my first device. The doorbell shows offline. I go through all the troubleshooting in the app and end up calling Ring for help. They had me reset the device and reconnect it to Wi-Fi. Everything is back up and working, great. Except the next day we are offline again, over the next week or two I am resetting the device almost daily. So I called back explaining my issue expecting to get a replacement under my plan. I was WRONG, to my surprise, I was told that the protect plan would not cover my doorbell because I had moved. I told the person that this was never explained to me and that this was not right. I asked for resolution and was escalated to a manager. They also told me, tough luck. We see all the money you have spent with us, but you must buy a new doorbell. Again, I asked for a resolution to fix this mistake. I was told an email would be sent to see if this could be corrected. I received a prompt response that my warranty and loyalty to Ring would not be honored, please buy a new product. I am frustrated to say the least, if I had the money to replace all the cameras with Nest or some other product, I would. Seeing that I am stuck with Ring until I can save to start replacing them, I reluctantly bought this refurb to replace my doorbell. Well guess what, the doorbell comes in and… I spend the morning removing my doorbell and putting this one in place. It does not work. I follow guides online to troubleshoot but nothing. My wife suggested to but the old one back and see if something was wrong with my wiring. I reinstall the original one and it comes right on. So I received a defect to replace my defect. Hours of my time have now been spent troubleshooting, resetting, changing installs to end up where I was. I decided that I am done. I requested a refund and was only offered to take this back to my nearest UPS store. Fine, I don’t have one that is around the corner but I drive to the nearest one. Once I arrive and wait, I get to the front to be told I need the packaging that the ring was sent in to process the return or I could pay $9.99 for UPS to package it up for me. So I go back home and pull the padded envelope from the trash and proceed back to UPS to process my return. I do not expect Ring to do anything else at this point. I am posting this one star review to hopefully save other people from this company and the fact that they just don’t care. I have told my family and friends what is happening. I will go into work and share this with all my co workers and people I help. I have thought to myself, maybe I am overreacting, maybe this is a Karen move! I just can’t get over all the great things I have said, all the people I have convinced to buy this product, all the money that I have spent to be denied the warranty on my device. I went online and saw that this device has known issues and Ring just wants to sweep it under the rug. Maybe I am wrong to post my story, maybe I am wrong about how I have been treated, maybe Ring will contact me and make this right and I will change this review! I just don’t know, but for now, here is my story and warning to buy something else. I hope other people do not get stuck buying into this ecosystem just to get the short end of the stick. Good luck to everyone either way and thanks for reading to the end.
