Best powered speakers I've ever heard
By dogzrule on Reviewed in the United States on November 10, 2023
Snagged these on sale and I have to say that for that money I don't think anything else will come close. Even at the original full price I think they're worth the money. I've had these on my wishlist for a long time now and I'm not disappointed. I will say first that the lack of any sort of crossover control is something that could be improved in a future version. I would be tempted to pay a little bit extra for that flexibility. I definitely like the strong bass at low volume. That's a really sweet feature. I've previously owned a Klipsch subwoofer, that used to clear off all the dust in the room anytime there was an explosion in a soundtrack, so I'm used to their quality which really helped with the purchase decision for me. That said, the first thing that I noticed when listening for the first time was the phenomenal bass response. Are you kidding me - it's like there's a subwoofer in the room. That's why I made the comment about an adjustable crossover. The bass isn't overpowering at all. It does take a little trial and error to find the right distance from the wall for the best bass, of course. I'd like to see a future version with equally good bass but front ported if possible. I realize that would require a larger cabinet but it would give the option to wall mount. I have them in my home office in a spare bedroom for an idea of room size. My last bookshelf size speakers were Polks powered by a high current receiver and they didn't have this much punch. I absolutely love the bass. This is an apartment so I'm afraid to really crank them up. I think I'd be in trouble pretty fast if I did. The rest of the sound is great too. I was afraid of getting listening fatigue from the horn tweeters but OMG. I would definitely not call these overbright. They're wonderful to listen to. For example stuff by Sleeping Pandora sounds really nicely mixed when I listen on these. It can be difficult to make it sound good on inexpensive systems. "Sorrow", by Pink Floyd is breathtaking because that bass solo at the beginning really shines with these. My other listening option is a pair of Byerdynamic studio headphones and these are every bit as enjoyable. I get goosebumps. I don't know if I believe in "break in" for speakers but as good as they sound initially it'll only get better. Bluetooth was super easy to connect out of the box. At first the tablet didn't find them from across the room but after bringing it a lot closer, doing the pairing, it was fine after that from anywhere that I would expect to be able to use Bluetooth. I like being able to basically use my tablet as a music system remote for queuing up music and stuff. I know it doesn't sound as good as wired but when I want higher quality I just plug it in to the headphone jack. I'm using the USB for sound in Windows and Linux and that was seamless to set up. The quality is phenomenal. I've been collecting vinyl from independent bands on Bandcamp and hopefully will be able to get a turntable soon, so the preamp was as much a selling point for me as the Bluetooth. I really appreciate all the connection options on these. It's a main reason why they were at the top of the list for powered speakers that I was considering. Highly recommend. 10/10

Great Sound/ Craftmanship Needs Improvement (R-51PM)
By PoloGuy on Reviewed in the United States on August 6, 2020
Update as of 04/20/23. Pay extra attention to the speaker terminal caps. Mine are closed end. Which means that I would have to replace them in order to use banana plugs. The picture posted for this advertisement is get same as what was displayed back in 2018. They are showing open end terminal caps. Re: Customer Service (The Lack Of (Klipsch Support) It appears that Klipsch related issues have first priority for Customers that purchase directly from them, as opposed a online retailers like amazon. In regards to some of the reviews, I was very skeptical about making this purchase. I had gone through so many reviews that conflicted with one another. It made things even more confusing. At that point, I decided to look at reviews outside of Amazon. Reviews from professionals. I noticed that people have complained that when they turn off the Dynamic Bass EQ, than turn off the system. When they turn it back on, or the system comes out of standby mode, that the dynamic bass would revert to the on position. I, however have not experienced this issue. My settings remain the same. Keep in mind, when switching the Dynamic Bass on or off, it is not instant. It is a transitional process. It takes about two seconds after two blinks of the LED. Some have commented that with Dynamic Bass EQ enabled, they are unable to hear the difference. It all depends on the material being played. For example, when listening to material that has heavy bass lines, you’ll notice the change right away. When listening to vocals, not so much. Unless you are listening to James Earl Jones. I like the configuration of the remote. Unfortunately, the skip feature is unavailable. Selecting any source will turn on the system. No need to press power first and than the mode. I enjoy the fact that remote control codes for universal and cable remotes were supplied. I also plan on attempting to use my logitech universal remote which Logi should have this product in their database. Bluetooth pairing can be done in two ways. Either via the remote, or the knob on the back of the active speaker. Pairing process is simple. Once paired, the speakers will reconnect automatically. Unless you disconnect the active speaker from the outlet. The distance between iPhone (XS Max) (Bluetooth 5.0) has no issues. My phone can be in the kitchen, forty feet from the speakers in the bedroom. Solid signal, no cutting out. These speakers definitely present enough bass listening at all levels. Set the dynamic bass on when listening at a low level, and off when listening at higher decibels. If you want wall vibrating bass, I would suggest the subwoofer. Update 04/04/21- Ok, I caved. I just purchased the R-100SW. I guess I missed that wall vibrating Bass. :-) The veneer covering the speaker is a bit unusual. It has a wood grain, but also has ripples in it. And appears that patches of veneer as opposed to a sheet per side were used. It’s a shame that the speakers are made of a quarter plastic. The horn is plastic, the bezel surrounding the woofer is plastic. At this price range I expected diecast metal. Basically you’re paying for the sixty watt amplifier, series of inputs including a Sub-Out, the screw terminal posts, and of course, the sound. Unfortunately, there is no HDMI connectivity. Hiss? Yes, there is. Only audible if you place your ear directly in front of the tweeter and mid range woofer, or are sitting directly in front of them. In my setup, my computer is connected to my big screen. Which happens to be ten feet from the seating area. I connected my turntable via the RCA cables from the turntable to the active speaker. I set both turntable and active speaker to phono. Then, I switched to line on the turntable to the line setting on the active speaker. The sound is robust on either setting. people have complained that they experience low sound quality. This is usually caused by not setting both devices to either line, or phono. They will set one device at line, and the other device will be at phono. I experience this year‘s ago first hand. There are definitely USB connectivity issues when connecting to a Windows PC. Microsoft has released generic USB Audio Drivers. As we’ve learned in the past, generic drivers do not offer the same functionality that a manufacture’s driver does. Not all USB devices are created equal. It is time for manufactures that design USB devices, provide a driver that will work under a Windows based PC. Generic drivers appear to be working well with turntables, but turntables only. I have taken the liberty of testing every connection on the back of the active speaker. Everything functions as expected, despite the driver issue in Windows. The manual is made up of heavy stock paper. The images are clear. However, the text is limited. Klipsch is attempting to cater to seven ethnicities. This is not one easy task when it comes to a manual design. Remote control codes for universal and cable remotes are documented. I would like to thank JRSourcing (Seller) and amazon (shipper) for shipping the product to me ahead of schedule. It is appreciated.
