Was willing to give it a chance then it just stopped working. Update: The best customer service!

I decided to give this soundbar a chance because it is an Anker product and Anker usually makes pretty great stuff. I connected it to my tv using the optical cable provided and started playing games and watching movies. The sound from this is honestly a mixed bag. The movie mode made the dialogue in movies hard to hear because the emphasized more of the surrounding background audio like music or sound fx. So not good there. Music mode is good for just music, I thought maybe it would help with the dialogue, but no, it really is just for music. Honestly the mode specifically for dialogue allowed me to hear everyone talking great at the cost of losing the music and sound fx in the movies. I figured for the price I would keep it, but then the 3rd time I used it, it just buzzed and then no audio at all. I turned it off, unplugged it, messed with every button on the simple remote, but I guess it really wasn’t meant to be. I’m grateful that I was able to return it. I hope that my situation was an uncommon one, because I really do like Anker, but unfortunately I’ll be second guessing purchasing more audio from them. Update 8/6/19: Within hours of my review An Anker customer service rep contacted me apologized for the experience I had with their soundbar. She assured me that Anker was proud of their products and that I was unfortunately the recipient of a faulty soundbar. They are sending me a replacement and As soon as I receive it I will update this review. I have never before dealt with a company that not only quickly responds to my reviews, but also is willing to do everything in their power to make things right. I am now a loyal customer to Anker. I wish more companies were like them. I’ll update this review as soon as I receive the new soundbar. Update 8/18/19: First and foremost I have to say again that Anker’s customer service is amazing! I received the new soundbar and was upgraded to the Soundcore Infini Pro Integrated 2.1 Channel Soundbar with Dolby Atmos. I know that Anker is very proud of their reputation and it is well deserved. I feel like I should write the review for this new soundbar under it’s own page but for convenience sake I’ll do it here. The Soundcore Infini Pro Integrated 2.1 Channel Soundbar with Dolby Atmos is definitely a bigger fuller sounding bar. The biggest thing I wanted to try out was the Dolby Atmos feature. I made sure all my connections were correct and that all the devices, movies, signals were all Dolby Atmos capable. Firstly the surround sound from front, left, right and rear were excellent. I don’t know how the speaker made it sound like something was behind me, but it did! As far as the Atmos feature goes I have to say it works, but not as strongly as the rest of the surround sound. I tested movie mode this time and it’s much more balanced between voice and background sound fx, I can actually distinguish everything. Again music mode is great for tunes and voice mode really separates the voices from the rest of the sound. This soundbar has Bass I mean when a spaceship passes by in a movie you hear the deep sound of the engines booming. I have to say I really do like this soundbar but most of all I like that I can buy an Anker product and rest assured that Anker stands by their customers.

Okay sound for the price, mediocre everything else

I purchased Anker's new soundbar to try and get a little better sound from the 39" Vizio smart TV in my bedroom. At $90 on sale, I figured it was worth a try. After receiving and connecting the soundbar, I tested out the sound from the TV (connected via optical cable) and from Spotify via my phone and the Bluetooth connection. I wasn't blown away by the sound, but it was a step up from the TV's speakers and about what I expected for the price. With the initial test complete, I hoped to be able to control the soundbar from my TV's remote, so I read through the manual but didn't find anything about it. I contacted Anker tech support and was informed that it can only be controlled from the included remote. Bummer... Next, I started playing with some of the various settings on the soundbar and found that changing the sound modes via the Anker remote was activating menus on my Vizio TV. If you're never going to change between dialog, movie and music modes you probably won't have a problem, but it was quite the difference in sound quality between the modes and I could definitely see myself wanting to do that somewhat regularly. That said, having it call up menus when doing this and then needing to use the Vizio remote to cancel them out was a deal breaker for me. I contacted Anker about this as well and they basically just said "sorry, we'll send you a return label and issue a refund". I applaud Anker for actually responding to questions, and for a no-hassle return on a product that I'm not satisfied with, but seeing as how Vizio is one of the biggest names in TVs these days I'd expect they should have avoided this problem in the first place. One last note... again, this is a $100 (or less) soundbar, so I can't imagine anyone is expecting too much, but there is only one small LED indicator that gives you any sort of feedback on what is happening. It flashes white when the volume is going up or down, then holds steady when max or minimum volume is reached. It flashes or stays steady on a few other colors for other modes and features then turns off after a few seconds. I'd much rather have a small LCD to show more clear indication of what's going on, or an HDMI connection that can show some on screen info like the higher end soundbars have. Update - After returning the soundbar I was contacted by Anker customer support who apologized for the unsatisfactory experience I'd had with it. As a token of goodwill, they offered to send me a free Bluetooth speaker for my troubles and they followed through with that offer promptly. I received the Anker Soundcore Boost in the mail a few days later and it is quite impressive for a small, battery powered speaker and has the added benefit of being able to act as a backup battery bank for any USB devices you have. I again applaud Anker for outstanding customer support and will not hesitate to try more of their products in the future! I have updated my star rating to 3 from 2 as honest and caring companies like this are hard to find these days!
