Great starter player for 4K
By Nintendo Cat on Reviewed in the United States on April 15, 2020
The bottom line on this, IMHO, is that it is a good starter 4K disc player with very good upscaling of blu ray and DVD, especially blu ray. It is not a $1000 4K disc player. It is not a $500 disc player. Regarding compatibility with a 4K TV, I can only speak about my experience with my large QLED samsung TV. I had trouble with dark scenes looking good through this player, even after using the Disney blu ray calibration disc. Otherwise, Ready Player One 4k looks great. Guardians of the Galaxy blu ray is superb. Star Wars Episode V DVD upscales very, very nicely. But every dark scene in my setup just looks so muted. This player seemed to do fine with sending Atmos and 5.1 surround sound tracks to my sound system, so no complaints from my ears, but perhaps there is more out there. I suspect this player with some TVs will simply be spectacular. With others, maybe not so great. At a price of about $100 (I paid a little over this), it can get you going. I have owned mine for roughly one year, and I have concluded I need to try another player. The mid range Panasonic just went on sale, so I will try that one. I will have to update my review in a month or so with comparison notes. --------------- Update I stand by my statement that this is an excellent starting 4K disc player, and still think this will perform awesome with some TVs. I will now compare to the Panasonic UB820. The Panasonic wins on HDR features. Easily adjusts my picture brightness, noticeably so, and that made me super happy (see above comments). The LG wins on audio setup with my equipment, using a Samsung atmos soundbar and no receiver. The less expensive LG for whatever reason could pass atmos and picture flawlessly through the ARC and back. With the Panasonic, I went through many iterations of setup before compromising on optical audio between the QLED TV and soundbar & having confirmed atmos on a direct HDMI from the disc player to the soundbar. I had to have atmos from the discs, and having the picture and sound together is just so enjoyable. 5.1 Dolby digital from other sources (Roku, antenna, gaming) was acceptable to me. Netflix is available on both disc players and both have better Netflix picture and audio than through my Roku Premiere (all equally connected by ethernet), but my Roku remains my go-to streamer.

FRAUD. DEFECTIVE. DISASTER.
By S N. on Reviewed in the United States on August 22, 2024
Amazon advertised LG UBK90 as new but then sent me a USED item. They didn't think I'd notice. What egregious fraud! This was Amazon, not a third-party seller! How can this happen?? The shipping box clearly says used (picture attached), and the item came in a big ziploc bag instead of the LG box! Furthermore, the item was defective. I tried many discs and various types of discs including 1080p blu-rays and 4K blu-rays, but the player was REALLY LOUD. The problem was consistent and easily reproducible. It sounded like a jet engine about to explode. Very scary. I've never heard anything so loud. I contacted LG, but they had no solution. I complained to Amazon MANY times, but they are ungodly dishonest. Initially, they said they refunded me already & to discard the item, and they immediately hung up on me. They blatantly lied. Good thing I checked my account to confirm that they did not refund me. I complained again and again, but even the exec agents are extremely dishonest and rude. Dishonesty is pervasive in this company. This company used to have good customer service. After COVID, the culture dramatically changed, and now Amazon has no problem cheating people. In the last couple years or so, I have had numerous awful experiences with Amazon. Amazon deserves to be criminally investigated. I'm done with Amazon. Maybe this review reflects more poorly on Amazon than LG. It's hard to assess when the item is clearly defective. Amazon never truly apologized or did right by me for costing me so much time and money well beyond the cost of the item. Even if Amazon had accidentally sent me a refurbished item, they never actually refurbished the item because it is clearly defective. No matter how you look at the situation, Amazon committed blatant fraud multiple times! The Federal Trade Commission has sued Amazon. FTC, if you're reading this, feel free to use this as evidence in any of your cases.
