Consider another product or a wired system
By Robert on Reviewed in the United States on August 26, 2019
***UPDATE 08/31/19*** CONSIDER ANOTHER PRODUCT OR A WIRED SYSTEM!!!!! ok so I'm over a week in at this point and bottom line is this camera system is only good for live viewing and a deterrent!!! The motion detection is next to useless unless something is 1 fl in front of the camera. The night vision or brightness setting causes the camera to flash its led which kills the battery with all the false positives. Oddly enough the audio detection is more reliable than the motion detection. In combination you still get hardly nothing when it comes to video capture. For instance, one Camera is at my front door covering my drive way and the camera wont start recording as the car is pulling up just after I slam the door and approach the door. I have no idea how ANYONE gave this product higher than 1 star. Guess that's paid marketing for you. However, we might get a decent system with Arlo 57 Titanium @ $6K per camera with a lifetime subscription that extends to your unborn child! FYI IM GIVING 5 STATS FOR CONSUMER WARNING *** Previous review*** HIGH LEVEL: I bought this product for its ease of setup and app integration. This being a "renewed" product, I did not have hardly any trouble thus far (day 4). Packaging was ok. All items were in good shape. However, I did have to factory reset the device to pair the cameras. All cameras work properly and the base station is functioning. Also being a YI Home Camera user I had some expectations going into the purchase. The real-time camera view is clear along with the audio. My furthest camera is maybe 100 ft from the base station and it has about 2/3 signal strength. Motion detection seems to be hit or miss with the sensitivity up to 100%. Overall for my usage the system works for me but I may consider a wired system down the road for the local continuous video recording. PROS: -audio is clear -video is clear -setup is easy -camera mounting was easy with outdoor mounts -mobile app works well CONS: - limited Camara modes -motion detection is delayed and seems to start recording when the triggers is no longer in frame -the cloud service is almost nonexistent without a premium cost -local storage has no function. There is nothing indicating where to access it or what's being stored.

Horrid negative 1 star software linking you to okay hardware = spend your money elsewhere
By 2ohseven on Reviewed in the United States on March 27, 2018
Hardware is okay. 720p picture with a decently wide angle view is good enough for my purposes, although i gets grainy when zoomed in at all, let alone significantly. Actually _using_ the hardware, however ... is negative 1 stars. Please be aware that the UX/UI of the Android app (we don't have Apple products around here) is terrible. Wildly terrible. The worst I've seen, bigly. Apparently everything, and I mean everything, runs through the cloud. I have a gigabit WAN connection, and I know how to use it. And the LAN is decently built too -- we have Unifi APs and gigabit switches in the moderately sized house, and everything is fast. Arlo though takes forever to do anything. Want to turn on the camera for live view? Go pour a beer. Even on the local network, which is basically insane, because Bandwidth Aplenty. It takes at least 5 seconds to buffer, usually more. To put that in perspective, we use YouTube TV and it buffers in about a second even though the servers are wherever. When we play 1080p video from the NAS, there is no perceptible buffer at all. But my cameras that are 10 feet away? Good luck. And that of course assumes that the app actually works. It often doesn't, because (even though my phone is secured) the app has some sort of login timeout that is not adjustable. Once your session has expired, well then it's time to force-quit the app because there's no internal way to login again. I'm not kidding slash you read that right. *You will have to force-quit your app to access your cameras if you haven't used the app in more than X minutes.* It's mind blowing, but not in that good way you remember from your trip to Amsterdam junior year. Oh, and the web implementation relies on Flash for video, which makes me laugh because these are supposedly security cameras, and flash is the opposite of security. [Update some of these problems were from using the second layer of security provided by the app, turning that off helps somewhat but the app still sucks.] I wish I had returned this and spent the money elsewhere. So, why 2 *s? As much as I hate almost everything about the software, the hardware as I said is okay. I like the local storage option, which I really wasn't able to find in other hardware. Netgear can fix the software. Let's hope they do.
