UPDATE: Yesterday's "Won't Stay Paired with my iPhone 13" is now "Replacement works great"
By Amazon Customer on Reviewed in the United States on March 2, 2022
UPDATED REVIEW: Yesterday I emailed Amazon to swap out the original defective selfie stick with the bad remote for a replacement of the same model (which arrived today). And good news... the new remote easily connected to my iPhone 13 without issue. And since I requested the replacement from Amazon just yesterday, getting the new selfie stick delivered this morning was really fast turnaround, especially since I had not returned the defective item until this afternoon. That said, the replacement remote works as it should (single click to take a photo in photo mode, or a single click to start/stop video in video mode). Considering how inexpensive this was and how quickly it shipped, not to mention it works as advertised, I have changed my original 1-star review to 5-stars. Time will tell if this holds up well, but it seems like it will, plus it does everything I need for a price that's tough to beat. PREVIOUS COMMENTS: I just received this selfie stick with remote today and immediately tried to use it with my iPhone 13. The selfie stick seems to work as advertised, but the remote took multiple tries (10+) to pair with my phone and would only connect over Bluetooth by holding the phone within an inch or two of the remote. I removed the case from the phone to see if that was causing some interference (doubtful, but worth a shot), but I got the same result. Whenever I moved the remote any further than an inch or two away from the phone, it would disconnect from Bluetooth, which defeats the whole purpose of the remote button being able to activate the camera shutter or video start/stop from a distance (duh). On the plus side, it did come with an extra battery, so as a test I put the extra battery in to see if maybe the battery that came with the remote was low on power. Unfortunately I got the same result. Now my only other option is to buy a brand new battery to check if both batteries that came with this item are bad, but I think I'll just return it to Amazon for an exchange since I may have just gotten a bad example. Based on the number of positive reviews from others, I'm hoping that's the case. But no matter what, it has been a time-waster so far.

I've been playing with the stick for a few days now and must say that I like this stick over most others that I've used (with one pretty serious caveat). On the positive side of things, the grip that holds the phone is firm and well made. It doesn't look like its going to come apart any time soon (at least from initial inspections) but it is limited to holding your phone in landscape mode only. You'll have to hold the stick sideways to get a portrait shot. I like how the camera mount portion was designed so that it will nicely fold back on itself when you want to put the stick away in your pocket or backpack. The best thing I've found is the versatility of the handle as it turns into a tripod. This means that I can place the phone on the ground somewhere (or picnic table, etc) and then position myself for the picture. As the remote comes off the handle, this means I can actually step outside of arms length to take those selfie pictures. So whats the bad for me? Well, its bad enough I dropped from 5 stars to 3... Pairing the remote to the phone itself is rather easy. The problem is that once paired, the remote doesn't "take a picture" on my HTC 10, rather each time I press the button, it increases the volume one tick with each press. Its like the button is mapped to my volume button instead of the picture taking button. I figured there might be an easy fix for this however... in researching on google, bing, yahoo, etc and looking all over on this topic I can find... nothing. This doesn't mean I've given up, but I have invested quite a bit of time in trying to make this work with no luck so far. And no obvious place to ask for help or look for direct answers. The unfortunate part of online only companies that cut out the middle man is that when you actually do need help, there isn't anyone there to help you. I'm going to mess with this a couple more days before ultimately (and sadly) returning the product. Without a working remote, all the other "neat" items are worthless.
