Good System

I had a first gen Night Owl system that quit working after 5 years so I decided to upgrade to a HD system. I have to say I am impressed with the system in whole. It was easy to set up and the streaming to smartphone worked easily and extremely well once port forwarding was set up. The app is very intuitive allowing for capture of snapshot or video file. The cameras are awesome and correlate movement with IR and display events as a yellow block on a timeline for easy review. the video quality is really sharp and the night vision mode really reaches out so much better than the older 720p cameras I had. The documentation is spotty at best and It took awhile to learn how to search and find events, but once figured it out it's really cool and easy to find things that set the system to record or send an alarm. I am very happy with the system, will see how it holds up.

Remote viewing app is too unstable

I purchased this to upgrade my existing system. I had a Nightowl brand previously but it became dated. I repurchased Nightowl brand because I had good luck with my prior cameras and had good customer service. BIG MISTAKE! These cameras have amazing clarity and the setup is very easy. The motion/IR sensors are still way too sensitive and even after adjustment, they still send far too many false alarms The phone app was also easy to install. However, like others have mentioned, the remote viewing app is very unstable. When it works, its great. Usually however, something goes wrong with it. Sometimes it wont work, sometimes the entire phone will freeze, and sometimes it just shuts down (don't believe the "not enough gigabite wifi" as I have 180 GPS wifi). Currently, the Nightowl X app has been completely down for 4 days and after waiting 2 hours for customer service, Nightowl says they are having technical problems and don't know when the app will work again. Are you kidding me! I bought this for security and they can't fix their own viewing app? If they don't have it fixed in the next few days, I will be removing this system and sending it back. My friend bought a Lorax and says its great. If not fixed soon, I'll give an updated review and will then be giving a Lorax camera system review.
