I returned $200 ATH-m50x headphones in favor of these...

I use headphones all day while on transportation to and from work, and also watch a lot of YouTube videos. I was researching all over for something with amazing sound quality, preferably with a microphone so i don’t have to switch out my earphones every time i answer a phone call, and preferably Bluetooth. Those weren’t as important to me as the sound quality but they were a HUGE bonus. I bought a few headphones to try out and would return all but the one i liked the most. One of the headphones wasnthe ATH-m50x. It’s apparently the holy grail of headphones under $200, as far as sound quality. They sounded awesome. But just didn’t work for me as far as transportation. They got super hot, i had to use a backpack in order to carry around, so as not to look like a douche with headphones around my neck, and they had wires, and no microphone. I actually prefer the sound quality of these to the audio technical ath- m50x, believe it or not. So onto the Sony EBs. First, the faults- The microphone is sub par at best. But it works. The build quality is a bit lame. I’ve only had these about a week, but so far nothing has come off, I’ll update if i have a button fall off or something. My one major complaint is with how big and clunky they are, you look like dumbo walking around in them. But here’s the savior- the sound quality is unreal. It is super hard to get adjusted into your ear at first. But the sound quality is dreamy. I like a lot of bass, and to turn my headphones up very loud. These headphones do not leak sound one bit! You can feel the pulse of every bass note. The sound is clear and the mids and highs come out great. The Bluetooth connectivity is also great and holds a long charge. Perfect headphones for me!

Lots of bass

2021 update: I have concluded that my particular earphones have very poor Bluetooth performance, with constant dropouts even if my phone is on my lap. Also I have problems when connecting and listening to my TV, only 12 ft away. Certainly won't work over 30 ft as BT is supposed to. Maybe I got a dud. Item arrived in record time: under a week to New Zealand. Great work AMAZON! Right - that's that out of the way. My first impression was Wow! too much bass!, however this will be dependent on how much bass your soundtrack has to start with - stating the obvious I guess. It came with the 'medium' earbuds and arc supports fitted and in my ears this combination was pretty snug. This seal obviously gave me the maximum bass effect and by reducing the size of the earbud seemed to reduce the bass effect a bit, due to a looser seal. I'm feeling better about the sound now having had a play. I reckon the overall frequency response is excellent. Earphones are as different as headphones and loudspeakers with respect to the sound they make, and everyone's ears are different too. The earphones are quite bulky compared to some other devices but with the arc supports they fit very well, and I guess that's why they can produce the bass response that they do. I have used them with my Huawei P8 Lite, My HP laptop and even my old LG GT400 dumb-phone and they all train up and play ok. My iPad2 was a bit temperamental and didn't work first up. More fiddling necessary to get to the bottom of that, although they did work eventually. I must say I'm a bit disappointed with the Bluetooth reception and I doubt they would work over more than about 5 metres let alone 10, which may be a wishful Bluetooth maximum. Also if you have a bunch of other Wifi and Bluetooth devices nearby you may get multiple dropouts and there are warnings about microwave ovens and other devices that use the 2.4GHz frequency. I have no experience with other wireless listening devices so my opinion is purely subjective. By the way - they do not work when my phone is switched to FM radio, which was actually why I got them. With the wired earbuds plugged in - they are required as an aerial - the phone only allows earphones or phone speaker and won't switch to Bluetooth headset.
