Back To School Personal Safety Device: The Geko Smart Whistle
By Lawrence Blkphoto Dortch on Reviewed in the United States on August 11, 2016
The Geko Smart Whistle is a personal safety device that doesn't just make noise to get people's attention it reaches out into the world contacting your loved ones when you are in trouble. If you are walking through the hallways on your way to the garage and someone bonks you on the head and you wake up in the trunk of a car you can push the button use the Geko Whistle to alert your emergency contacts. If you are just strolling along and someone is stalking you with the Geko Smart Whistle in your pocket you can quickly pull it out blow the whistle and scare off you potential attacker and alert your emergency contacts at the same time. The whistle has many great features like sending SMS messages, email messages, recording audio, sending location information and even making phone calls (Android only). That's a lot of features so I am going to focus on the what I consider the main features and that is sending the text messages, emails and blowing the whistle. Good: The setup is quick and easy. You download the Wiso app, put the battery in whistle and the app walks you through the rest. Good: There are two ways to activate the whistle. You can use either blow the whistle or the or push the button. Good: The whistle is easy to attach to pretty much anything and it's small enough to fit into your pocket. I like to attach it to my backpack. Good: The app works with both Android and iOS so you are not limited by which device you carry. Good: You can cancel an alert from your phone. So if you have a false alarm or your emergency has ended you can send a follow-up text and email to your same emergency contacts letting them know that you are safe. Bad: The whistle is not very loud. I was really blowing this thing and it just wasn't very loud. Bad: You have to pay for notifications. You get a small amount of free notifications but after you use those up you have to pay for more. The Geko Smart Whistle is a very interesting personal safety device that works really well and it's easy to setup. This is something every college freshman or anyone concerned about their personal safety should have on their keychain or in their pocket. I got this for my husband for when he is walking around in the yard- He is 80 with Parkinson's -But you have to have your cell phone with you- And this loud alarm goes off on your cell phone-This just causes panic for my husband. And if you have to have your cell phone with you...then you really don't need this...
