Great simple system for anyone
By Allen Scroggins on Reviewed in the United States on January 3, 2017
I installed these for my in-laws, outdoors. Very happy and surprised by their overall quality. It was important for the cameras not to be cloud based, or streaming from a cloud based system due to their worry about privacy. These camera's are not "cloud based" (where your footage is sent to the manufacturer, thus requiring you to stream from their servers). I went with Samsung due to them being a well-known business, reputable brand for quality equipment, and quality support. (I've dealt with several other security system support teams, none have been pleasant) ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Installation: Easy, run cable, connect cameras, connect to dvr. Accessibility: Run with a mouse or "provided" remote. Very nice and user-friendly mobile app. The web access is nice too, I prefer it for configuring/managing than the dvr itself. Image quality: Great, lush, clear picture. Night-vision quality: Pretty good, I would say about 30-40 ft of decent viewing range, this is with other lights on around the house, not complete darkness. Happy overall with this feature though. Build Quality: Good, sturdy, seems like they will do well and last a long time outdoors. Playback: was confusing at first but logical nonetheless. It took me a little bit to figure out how the playback feature works on each device. CONS: I am unable to get the email feature working with this system. I either keep receiving the error "Unknown Error" or "Authentication failed" which I do not believe is the case as I've copied my address and password to verify in gmail and everything works appropriately. Using the correct SMTP information and ports, both with SSL enabled and disabled. I will continue to troubleshoot this. Not worth losing a star over to me, as this feature is not a huge deal.

Not useful

I have purchased several Samsung systems in the past. The new WiseNet systems are junk. I have eight cameras hooked up and it will only store video for about three days, even with the frame rates turned way down. Half the cameras are not even 720p. This wouldn't necessarily be a problem but the video can only be backed up in ten minute segments at a time. Previously you could back up the entire contents of the hard drive to an external drive easily in one step, plus the video files were several hours long instead of 10 minutes each. This system is useless if you need to clip out long segments of video or wish to backup video for long periods of time such as in a retail security environment. Edit: After using the system for a few months it is more terrible than I thought. I'm downgrading to one star for these reasons: -The only way to backup the video is to physically remove the hard drive from the system and copy it to another hard drive. Other than that you are stuck with 10 minute clips. I've confirmed this with Samsung customer support. -I'm using the WiseView app on a Galaxy S8 Plus, and it crashes or locks up every single time. -There is no application for viewing the system from a Windows PC. You have to be running the WiseView app, which does not run on Windows. I was able to get it started by downloading an Android emulator (BlueStacks) to my PC and downloading the WiseView app through that. It still functions terribly. -Though you are able to clip out images or video from the WiseView app, God help you if you need to copy them. I've yet to locate where the files are stored. -You can fast forward on the WiseView app but not rewind. There is a slider that allows you to select times but it moves in increments of two minutes and eleven seconds. If you need to see something at 12:42:59 but the slider stops at 12:43:00 you have to start two minutes and eleven seconds back. You will quickly start to hate this. -If you do not want the live view of the cameras to be displayed when logged out of the system you have to change each camera to "covert". However, they are still blacked out when you log back in. All of this comes down to the WiseView software. If they could fix these issues it would be a decent system. The video quality is good enough. The interface and WiseView app are the worst decision Samsung could have made.
