Epic 2: excellent earphones for running
By Donna239 on Reviewed in the United States on November 18, 2017
I have had the JLab epic 2 wireless earbuds for about a week now and have been extremely impressed with them. I am a runner and mainly use my earphones for running and sometimes at the gym. When I listen to music while not exercising I will usually pick up a pair of one of my higher end wired earphones but may not need to do that any longer! I have had a few pairs of wireless earphones in the past and I think that everyone needs to realize that these are fragile beasts in general and across the board, there tends to be a high failure rate for wireless earphones after 6-12 months. I can’t comment on the reliability of the epic 2’s that I bought (they are great right now), but I know that these and other wireless earphones always get dinged in online reviews because of breakdowns. So if you are chasing down all the reviews as I did, don’t be scared away by the reliability issues. Also, many of the reviewers get upset simply because they can never figure out how to pair and use these which is unfortunate because they are simple and pair just as they should. Also, when reviewing sound quality in earphones, it is unfair to rate or review them poorly when listened to right out of the box. All earphones need to be broken in and sound quality does not optimize until the membrane has been broken in and loosened up a bit. Now, on to my impressions. I truly love the sound that these produce. There is deep bass and nice highs. The key is to get the proper seal in the ear canal with the earpiece and this is not always easy. If there is a tight seal, the bass will be awesome. If not, it will be less deep. Despite all the different earpieces provided, I actually picked out another set that I had laying around to use that were extra large and that worked best for me. One problem with a full seal like this is that although it optimizes sound, it does create a loud thud in the ear with each stride running and I think that that potentially is not good for the hearing. With the over the ear design of these, this is not a problem as you can easily just loosen the position in the ear canal to avoid that effect. Sound quality drops a little and the noise isolation goes down but you can hear what is going on around you. When a great track comes on, just push em in a little and the thumping bass comes back. The battery life on these is amazing. I have used them now for about 7 hours without a charge and can’t believe it. I know, they have a 12 hour rating, but honestly I never believe those claims. Perhaps it is true here! I still decided to put them on the charger today. I was lucky to get past 75 minutes with my last pair of blue tooth. Connectivity has been seamless and I can get nearly 40 ft away from my Samsung s7 edge before the connection gets wonky. My gear fit 2 also works great for running. My last blue tooth required my watch to be on the same side as the earphones or they would skip. No comment on using these for phone calls as I haven’t tried and most likely won’t use them for this. The fit of the gadget is excellent with the memory wire over the ear. I don’t wear sunglasses while running but that might be a problem. They stay in your ear and don’t move. The cable shortening clips work great and I didn’t have any problem with losing Bluetooth with the cord / antenna being shortened. Also, they are very light and the cables are not at all noisy. My first run was at daybreak here in San Diego and I thought that they were making a weird howling noise. Couldn’t figure it out until I turned them off and realized that there was a pack of coyotes howling in the canyon next to me… OK, enough is enough. These are great headphones and I am extremely happy with them. Fit, finish, battery, connection, and sound are all great. No buyer’s remorse here

excellent sound, a comfortable fit backed by a company ...
By Daniel L. on Reviewed in the United States on September 3, 2017
These ear buds have incredible build quality, excellent sound, a comfortable fit backed by a company with fantastic customer support. Unfortunately, in my experience the battery is this products Achilles heel. My original pair latested about 3 months of regular cross-fitting, before the battery completely died. The headphone would not power on at all. It was completely dead. I contacted JLab customer support (which again is excellent) and they happily processed a replacement. Two weeks after my replacement pair was received, the exact same battery issue occurred. Just prior to writing this review I submitted a second replacement request with JLab. I have no doubt JLab will again attempt to make this right, unfortunately an 0 for 2 track record is sapping my optimism. It's a real shame because it has everything else going for it. Currently, I can't recommend this especially for a pricey $99 dollar purchase. I'll update this a things develop. -=[2017/09/03 Update]=- Reading some forums with people experiencing the same issue, it was suggested that the USB cable maybe at fault. I left the earbuds charging with a different cable over night and it appears that they appear to be working. I also mentioned that I contacted JLab for a replacement. They have already responded to move forward with a replacement. I will hold of on doing so till I fully test out the newly res erected buds. Again, I cant say enough good things regarding JLab customer support. I will need to test out the original replacement buds before taking them on there replacement offer. I will update this as things progress. -=[2017/09/17 Update]=- The temporary charging I experienced in my previous update was just that, temporary. The headphones are officially dead. They do not charge under any circumstance. I honestly must have got 3 hours of use from these before they officially died. I have just submitted the response to the original RMA i placed fora replacement. From owning to short lived pair of these, the issue really is charging. You plug them in, and a red led indicates its charging. Sometimes you plug in and don't see any indicator. Leave it connected for an hour + and the red light might appear indicating its taking a charge. Once you experience this "might" be charging scenario, it's the beginning of the end for these earbuds. It would be helpful if JLab provided some guidance for charging, with out it your just guessing the product should work as advertised, but in my experience it never does. -=[2018/26/01 Update]=- Since my last update, I have already gone through 2 additional Epic2 replacements. Speaking to customer service they alluded to issues with the battery that have effected the Epic2 line, and that the new Epic Sport will be replacing the Epic2. Fast forward to my third and final replacement and I have received a brand new Jlab Epic Sport. Open the box, and they won't even power on. I've contacted Amazon and they are going to be refunding me money. Unfortunately no one can refund nearly a years time.
