Overwhelmed with security camera reviews? I was too. So glad I purchased Blink. Easy to install and great quality video/sound!
By Kim Silvia-Pare on Reviewed in the United States on March 27, 2017
Let me start by saying that I researched cameras for my house for about a year before making a purchase. I wanted something simple, that had sound, that wasn't super expensive, that was completely wireless and easy to install. I read so many reviews that I had a headache. I think it took me so long to purchase these because every camera has so many positive and negative reviews. My choice came down to the Netgear Arlo and the Blink.I received the set on Saturday, 3/25/17. I took each camera out of the packing and set up the sync module. I had a small issue with setting up the sync module but used the reset button, placed the sync module closer to my router and then it worked perfectly on my V10. I left the sync module on the first floor of my house near my wireless router. I went to my kitchen, on the second floor to set up all of the other cameras. I scanned each QR code on the camera, named it with the room name and then took a snapshot of the room for the home page of the app. I placed each camera where I wanted it, without mounting. I love that the cameras are smaller than the palm of my hand, it made them easy to set up. I did use the mounting brackets as a stand for a couple, so they could sit on a shelf. The setup took about an hour. The longest part was deciding where to put them! I was very impressed. Some of the reviews said the sound was really bad. I think the sound is great. There is a slight delay but that isn't a concern for me. They is a motion sensor for each camera that you can easily turn on and off from the home page of the app. You can also set the light to be automatically triggered once the motion sensor goes off, which creates enough light to see the entire room. There is a small blue light on the camera when recording or taking a snapshot. I may just use white tape, as another reviewer suggested, so that the light cannot be seen.I also read a review that said that you could not put the camera in a window facing outside. This is true at night, as the light reflects off the window but in the day time, the sensor works from our second floor and the quality is way better than I expected. The on demand video is great. I can check in on the hours, our animals and our kids at any time. I did see the "system busy" error in the app a few times but that was because I had made a change in the app and it was still syncing with the camera that I was trying to review. I went back to the main screen then to the live video and was able to see it.Any clips that are recorded with the motion sensor are saved on the phone. I forgot to shut off the motion sensor this morning and I had so many notifications! They were clear to view and the sound was great. There are 2 batteries in each, that were shipped with the cameras. I will update you on the life of them once I have them installed a little longer. As long as you monitor the system and turn off the motion and light off when you are home, I can imagine that they last quite awhile.I may purchase the new outdoor cameras once Blink releases them, as you can sync up to 10 cameras with one sync module. My wife and myself were able to both log in with the same user name and password and monitor from both phones. We may also be getting sets for our parents, so we can monitor them, as they are older. We will just need separate logins for those sync modules.Overall, I am very surprised at how easy these were to set up and the picture and sound quality are way beyond my expectations. If you are considering a home security system, I would definitely recommend these. I have never had cameras before and must say I am very impressed with the quality and ease of use of this set.

Prospective Buyer Needs To Distinguish Between Security and Surveillance
By PeteCress on Reviewed in the United States on March 3, 2019
The on-star rating is actually a bad rap for the cam because it reflects my use case bheing out of synch with the cameras' advertised purpose. The advertised purpose is Security:- Tweak the settings so the cat walking around does not trigger the cams- Arm the system- Leave the house- If anybody enters the house, the cams record them and send you a text message. These cams fulfill that purpose 100% - admirably. But my use case is Surveillance - namely checking up on The Old People to see if anybody is laying on the floor - and, for that use, they do not really work. ... They *could* work if they could be set to automatically update their snapshots every so many minutes or hours... and that used to be possible before Blink discontinued support of Smart Home... but now the functionality is lost.Manually taking a snapshot or manually starting a clip *might* work for one cam, but it is not real-world for, say, five cams: it is just too time-consuming.Pros:- Cams are nicely inconspicious. Do not be mislead by the web page photos, which make them look larger than they are: each cam is about the size of a drink coaster and the synch module is not much bigger than a match box. A Good Thing..- Picture quality is pretty good.- Setup is dirt-simple..CONS:- Amazon withdrew support for SmartHome integration, which held out some promise for customization in general and timed snapshot updates in particular..- Supposedly blink is integrated into something called IFTTT, but IFTTT seems to be a work in progress with little or no functionality. e.g. when writing one's own script, there are no time-related triggers and no snapshot-related actions - hardly anything, in fact..- When the user manually takes a snapshot or video clip, it is not saved to any sort of storage: only motion-triggered clips seem to be saved. .. .. There needs tb an option to save *everything* to the same cloud folder..- Snapshots need to be time-stamped on the image. e.g. 2019 03-15 23:12.- The Android app could use some work on it's functionality and UI. For instance, there seems to be no way to control the sequence in which cams are shown and the only available display is a sequential list: Ok for 1-2 cams, not so much for 5+ .. .. .. Snapshots cannot be viewed in landscape. .. .. The list of clips in the Cloud folder needs an option to increase the thumbnail size to make it useful in seeing what the last activity was - as in spotting somebody laying on the floor...As stated, my one-star rating is obviously based on my own use case, so it might not be relevant to all... but not being able to schedule snapshots makes these things pretty much useless to me.OTOH, if you are happy with the plain-vanilla "Security" implementation as it comes out of the box, go for it: easy setup, decent pix.... But understand that plain-vanilla is quite limited. One caveat though: battery life..More correctly, battery life indicator. There is little ot no granularity. At noon, it could say "OK", but by evening the batteries could be dead. So, if you are going away, figure on putting fresh batteries in the cams so you don't get a "Dead Battery" notif when you're 600 miles away.Either that, or buy a bunch of AC power sources and connect them for the duration of your absence.
