(NEW) Logitech G920 Driving Force Racing Kit

I purchased this wheel because I wanted to "upgrade" from a T150 to something with a clutch pedal and shifter. The TM stuff was going for around $250 for the shifter and $250 for the pedals, a hard pill to swallow. My brother wanted a wheel so I sold him the T150 and bought this with the shifter so I wasn't sinking so much money into my set up. I play Assetto Corsa (Grip and drift) and Dirt Rally 2.0 in VR on an Oculus Rift S. I also play BeamNG and FH4 on a traditional single monitor setup. First off I realize the TMX is the better comparison to this wheel and the T150 I had was over 5 years old...probably close to 7. The T150 was always clamped to a desk and I used an office chair, the G920 is mounted to a DIY Wood rig that is very overbuilt and solid. The G920 looks and feels 1000x better than the Thrustmaster. The leather wrap, while not luxurious, is way better than the plastic and rubber of the T150. All of the buttons feel just slightly better on the G920. The paddle shifters are slightly better (IMO) on the Thrustmaster, however they are a fair bit quieter on the G920. The pedals are more metal and solid and the brake with the conical mod feels much closer to reality than the T150. Both sets of pedals slid all over the place on my faux hardwood flooring. The force feedback is not as bad as some reviewers have mentioned (I grew up using non FFB wheels as a kid) but it is definitely lacking some of the smoothness of the T150. It feels just as strong and with a little tweaking in Assetto I can let the car autosteer quite well for drifting. I have had to mess with the filtering settings A LOT more than with the T150 to prevent any harsh judder, especially at low speeds. The worst part, by far is the absolute mess of drivers for this wheel. Logitech Gaming Software? Ghub? Which version? I had GHub for my mouse but the wheel was dead. No FFB whatsoever in any game. After perusing the internet I read to use LGS. The default download for LGS is version 8.something and for 32 bit windows. It refuses to install on current x64 Windows 10. Go back to the site, download the second option on the list that is definitely 64 bit. Oh its version 8.something and the most recent (from 2017ish) is version 9.something. Can you just update it and it works? Nope, download driver cleaners and do multiple reboots, search "This PC" for anything named "Logi" and delete it, reboot again, install newest version of LGS, reboot, now the wheel will work. Once I got this working I noticed my Logitech mouse had lost its button bindings. It requires GHub which was uninstalled when deleting everything else to make LGS work. So, repeat the same process, delete everything, reboot 100 times (so glad I have an SSD at this point), install the GHub, pray that for some reason this time it will work. Surprisingly it does! I don't have a recommended process for fixing this thing if it won't work aside from delete EVERYTHING from Logitech and start from scratch. Assetto Corsa requires me to select the wheel profile every time I start the game (In game, not in GHub). I do not remember doing this with the T150. I have read of a few other people that had to use this step as well so whether its the wheel or Assetto I do not know. Is this wheel worth it? Yes and no. It is SO much fun. I love sim racing and have been building up a car to take to IRL drift events because I enjoy doing it virtually so much. This wheel is not the best. It is far from the best. It seem to be reliable and robust, the software side of it is such a let down though. If I waste half of my time I have to drive setting up the wheel it becomes a less attractive method of spending free time. Perhaps the newest versions of GHub do a better job of setting the wheel up, it did go fairly seamlessly when I fixed it (for the 3rd time since purchasing a month ago) and got the newest GHub software. If you are on the fence about sim racing, this is a great way to get into it. If you have any experience or a desire to build a higher level set up I would look elsewhere. I will probably personally run this wheel for this year and upgrade to Fanatec or similar around this time next year. This wheel will be handed down to my son and will be perfect for a kid to learn to drive with.
