Gets the job done but with a couple design flaws.
By Chris Larson on Reviewed in the United States on January 19, 2017
This mount is not too terrible. It seems to do the job, but for the price, (and yes it's not much but there are cheaper alternatives out there) it has a couple design flaws that make it troublesome. One good part is that it's long enough to fit any studs up to 24", and with the standard VESA mount width being 400mm (~15.75") there's enough room to slide the TV brackets, when it's on the wall bracket, a few inches of center on either side of the center of the wall bracket to center the TV. This is important because the positioning of the wall studs, as it was in my case, may not be exactly in the center of the desired TV location, like centered inside a ceiling-mounted surround system. So this gives you a little versatility in that regard. Now to the issues: I don't have any reservation about the weight it can hold. However, it's important to note that the wall mount bracket comes in TWO distinct pieces that are held together with 4 inadequate machine screws. The center plate that you see in the picture is also a single piece, that does come attached to one half of the wall bracket. There are 4 tiny machine screws that hold on each half of the wall bracket. Worse yet, those machine screws are not thru-bolted, they screw directly into the frame metal which is threaded to receive those screws. The metal is some type of soft steel and the threads are very tiny, and the steel is thin enough where only 2 or 3 threads of this tiny machine screw are available for fastening. This is woefully inadequate. It's also one of the cardinal sins of mechanical design. It's like number 2 on the list of "don't do this" right behind the "don't cause fires" requirement. Even knowing this, I stripped out two of the four threads in that sheet metal just by applying, what I considered to be, minimal tension force. Not only are the screw and the threads that receive them embarrassingly inadequate, but they insert through slots, not holes, in the center plate, meaning there's more wiggle room and a loss of angular precision between the two halves. This is important because the TV brackets sit on either size of the center plate, one on each of the two wall bracket halves. And if the two halves are not perfectly level relative to each other, something that's hard to achieve because of the flimsy connection in the middle, then it's very hard to get the TV level. A very simple, and cost effective solution would be to provide a hole, not a slot which has minimal adjustment anyway, through which the screws pass into the plate. And instead of threading the 1/8" bracket plate (which is just dumb) provide 4 little locking machine nuts that match those attachment screws. Problem solved. In my case that's exactly what I did. I put all 4 screws into the threaded bracket locations, then found 4 small nuts that matched the screws, added a little loctite so the nuts didn't back out over time, and bingo. A thru-bolted and properly secured TV mount. For the inherent design flaws and lack of vision when it comes to a ridiculously simple fix that would cost 4 cents or less, this thing gets 3 stars. It works, if you make tweaks, but could be much better of a design using very simple solutions, and not break one of the most clear-cut guidelines in design, machining and assembly.
