Sounds really good through tv soundconnect, but pretty bad through Optical and HDMI ARC
By J. H. on Reviewed in the United States on July 9, 2016
I got this on June 26 from Best Buy for $399. That's the lowest price I've seen it anywhere. I have it connected to a Samsung 55 JS8500. I have 2 other Samsung TVs and 2 other Samsung soundbars, which have never given me any trouble. For some reason this soundbar produces low audio when connected using an optical cable or an HDMI cable, which is very strange. The subwoofer is pretty weak through an optical and HDMI connection as well. It actually sounded bad compared to my other 2 older soundbars, HW-E450 and HW-F550, when set at the same volume of 20. I have those 2 connected with an optical cable and they sound good. I tested the Bluetooth connection with my phone and now it sounded great at the same volume level. Since the tv supports soundconnect I decided to give it a try and that's when I found that the soundbar does sound great with the tv. It was actually loud and now the subwoofer produced good amount of bass that you can feel. Now I am happy with the sound it produces. The soundbar is long, but it's very nice looking. I placed it in front of my tv stand since my tv is flat the stand doesn't fit under the bar like it would with some of the Samsung curved tv models. It also comes with a mount that connects to the Samsung tv if you plan on mounting your tv. Haven't had any issues with Bluetooth, WiFI, or soundconnect connectivity. I have been able to use the Samsung Multiroom app through my phone without an issue as well. Through that app I was able to update the firmware to the soundbar as well. I rated this 4 stars because of the low volume it produces through an optical or HDMI connection.

I bought this replacing a 5 year old surround sound system because of the positive reviews, and that it was on sale for under $600. The set up was easy, and I was happy with the ability to stream sound from my phone, but the sound from the TV was horrible! I tried using HDMI and optical, and you could barely hear it, and it had to be turned up to like 40. I tried the SoundConnect and it was marginally better. Plus it's huge. Granted, I did not have a curved TV but the bar looked obnoxious. I used it for 3 days and plan on returning it. Don't waste your money if you care about good sound. You are better off using the TV speakers or spending the extra money to get a real system.
