Good Performace For The Money
By leegart on Reviewed in the United States on May 14, 2015
This was purchased to enhance the sound of a Samsung 28" TV. I used the optical cable. Set up was easy though you do have to get used to having the LED lights on the front of the unit tell you which input you are using or which sound enhancement feature you are using. Something a little more intuitive would have been helpful though the manual helps. That being said, for the price, the Vizio unit gives you good performance with sufficient features. The highs and lows are much improved over the speaker in the TV. The midrange is acceptable. It also has Bluetooth so you can wirelessly link a smart phone, a tablet, or an ipod. The music sounds good considering that Bluetooth compresses the range of the sound. The angled placement of the speakers provides surprisingly good separation. If you want good value for a speaker than enhances the audio from the TV and is a good mount for the TV, this Vizio speaker is well-worth it.
Top critical review
This is a very poor piece of equipment.

The unit will not hold settings. Tone is impossible to adjust, there is way too much base. I am in the process of replacing it. No more Vizio products for me if this a sample of their wares.

Our led tv in our fifth wheel camper needed it's sound improved. After trying a Bose SoundLink Mini II we were disappointed due to it having no control over the bass and treble, as well as an annoying buzz if the tv was turned off. So I took a chance with this Vizio, and it fills all our needs. We have control over the bass and treble, it has a remote control, and the bluetooth makes it easy to listen to audo books or music from the iphone. We can listen to the tv, the iphone via bluetooth, and also the XM radio which we have in the camper. We just simply parallel plug the devices via the 3.5 audio jack input in the back of the Vizio. I have Y connectors so that they all feed into the 3.5mm jack, and we just turn off the devices we are not listening to at the time. Also have wireless headphones hooked to the same place to use when others are sleeping. We just mute the sound box and listen via headphones. The quality of the sound meets our needs perfectly. Good bass and treble, and while it is not audiophile quality, it is perfect for our camper. Plenty of volume for that small space.
Didn’t Improve the Sound--Until I Set the Controls Correctly

The physical setup of this sound base is a snap, with the well illustrated Quick Start Guide, but once completed, the audio didn’t sound any better than with my TV’s speakers. With some further reading in the guide and fiddling, I realized the controls were set incorrectly, and once I remedied that, the device delivered a more spacious and resonant sound. Here are hints for avoiding my mistakes. 1) Before hooking up the device, set the TV’s sound to just barely audible. 2) Hook up the device per the instructions on pages 1-10 of the Quick Start Guide 3) Read page 12 of the Quick Start Guide carefully--it is labeled “LED Indicators” but it has essential instructions for using the remote controller. 4) Press the Power button on the remote (press the button--don’t just tap it, and do the same with the other buttons) 5) If you don’t hear moderate volume sound, press the Input button, count to 15 and if you don't hear moderate volume sound press it again and count to 15, continuing like that until you get sound. You have to wait awhile because it takes about 10 seconds for the sound to begin after the correct setting is reached. You can verify which input setting you are on by the LED lights on the front-left of the sound base (see pages 6 and 12), but the setting that work for the hookup between the device to the TV that I used seemed to be one beyond what the lights indicated, and the lights are hard to see in a bright lit room. 6) Press the DTS TruSurround (TSHD) once, and if necessary a second time so that the LEDs indicate it is off. Experiment with this later, if you want, but in my living room it didn’t work well and muddied the sound. 7) Press the Bass button once and then the Reverse Arrow once to lower the bass one notch, verifying that happened with the LED display. This sound base is not capable of providing clean deep bass. Experiment later, if you want, with higher levels of the bass setting. 8) Do not judge the sound quality by the lousy audio signals of many football games and some commercials. Rather check out several stations and shows, switching the device on and off before making a judgement. This base improved the sound of my TV, which a leading consumer magazine rated as average, but no $100 device is going to fill a room audiofile sound. Note: The DTS TruVolume (TVOL) does a great job of moderating the blaring sound of some commercials and enhancing soft dialogue. Conclusion: Nice benefits at a bargain price. Glad I bought it.
I Would Pick This One Every Time.

The sound quality of the VIZIO S2120w-EO 2.0 Sound Stand is Fantastic. I was a bit sceptical when I purchased this because it cost considerably less than other sound stands with similar features. I was happily rewarded with crystal clear digital sound with rich bass and crisp midrange and treble. I sit here writing this review listening to Amazon Prime Music via my Amazon Fire TV Stick with the contented feeling of making a great purchase. My Television, also made by Vizio, is a 2015 model 40" Smart TV that supports the digital optical hook up that is included with the sound stand. Not only does this produce the best sound quality but I like the simplicity of hooking the unit up to my TV with only one cable. The remote that comes with the unit is simple to use, but in my case not all that necessary. My Vizio TV remote works with this unit to adjust the volume up, down, or mute (didn't even have to program it). I like this sound stand so much, I am considering a second one for my bedroom Vizio TV. If someone told me I could have this unit or a more expensive one, I would pick this one every time.

This is a great solution to improving the sound of your big screen TV without the clutter of a stereo system and speakers all over the room! This unit sounds great and sits underneath the TV on its stand, so it doesn't take up any extra room at all. I am using the sub-woofer outputs to drive an external 100 watt 12 inch Energy subwoofer, and the sound is awesome for music and Movies as well. We love the bluetooth feature for streaming our music collection from our bluetooth devices and android radio apps. Something our old surround setup couldn't do! The remote is small, not big and clunky like the one from our old stereo, and I like being able to control the subwoofer level from my chair! Wish we would have bought this Visio sound stand a long time ago, and for the price, it's a great deal. Seems well made too so I expect to enjoy this for a long time to come.

Sounded good had a hard time controlling it. Every time I touched a button the lights would go on and off and no sound. I don't know if I was doing something wrong but it was to confusing for me.

The distortion is unbearable. I've tried adjusting every possible setting on both the sound stand and TV, to no avail. Even with bass turned down to the lowest setting, the sound stand audio breaks up.

While not the last word in great enhanced audio quality for your flat panel set, this is a pretty good little soundbar package that allows you to set your TV right on top of it (my 55" Vizio sets upon it perfectly) and offers much better sound overall than the tinny built-in speakers typically found on today's sets. I think the bass is probably the biggest improvement, the mid-range & higher frequencies are acceptable - just don't expect a theater-like 5.1 surround experience. But for a hundred bucks, I consider this a good all-in-one soundbar that steps your TV sound up to a higher level without the need for a mounting bracket, surround speakers, speaker wires on the floor, etc. I found the manual to be better than most, and set-up was pretty straightforward. I also was surprised to find that included in the accessories was a 3.5 to RCA audio cable, an optical cable, and a coaxial audio cable. Of course you will get better sound when you spend more bucks, but on a quality-to-value/convenience factor, this is probably going to be difficult to beat. At some point, I'm going to try adding a sub to this unit and see how much the sound improves, but the on-board bass response isn't bad and hopefully, as with other speakers, this will "burn in" and open up a bit more. One other quick note, I bluetoothed the audio from my iPad to this unit and it paired and played without issue.

Once I got it to communicate with my TV the sound was just terrific. I love it. However, I had to call Vizio for connection help. Vizio provides three different ways to connect the sound stand to a TV. Unfortunately, none of them worked according to the instructions in their brochure. I was trying to connect to a 23" Vizio TV. They had me connect to the TV headphone jack (which I hadn't tried) and after a few reboots of the sound stand it finally connected. I was so joyous I proposed marriage to the Vizio technical rep. I turned it back on the following day and there was no sound. I tried the rebooting procedure I learned from the Vizio tech the day before and after a few tries it finally connected. I hope I don't have to go through that procedure every time I turn the system on and off. I don't think the problem is with the sound stand but with my TV. The sound is so good I'm willing to keep rebooting if I have to or get another TV before I consider returning the sound stand.
