substantial and good looking work of leather
By R. Lodge on Reviewed in the United States on July 25, 2017
I bought this Sony case for my RX100 V and also the less expensive MegaGear "Every Ready." I returned the MegaGear "Every Ready." The MegaGear "Every Ready" was an impressive, substantial and good looking work of leather. Nice retro look and metal was finished with a patina. It seemed amazingly low cost for the quality it expresses. But I returned it after on-camera trials against the Sony leather case. The reasons for return were: (1) The leather is really too stout and bulks the camera and hangs outward on one side in the back. (2) It drops open from rear, across top to front and the thick leather then hangs in front on thick, stiff leather, right in the way of the lens. Makes you want to just rip it off. (3) When opening, the weak cover-holding snap easily gives way and detaches. That's good because you will want to rip this annoying cover off fast. Don't designers test these products? Now, in comparison, the Sony leather case also seems like a fine work in leather. Its more "svelte" and camera form-fitting, but well enough a tough and strategically padded skin - just well designed for fit in the right places - as if actually designed by Sony specifically for this camera after a lot of engineering and aesthetic reviews. It also looks "retro" and more authentic in that, like my deceased dad's early Minolta's (only smaller), rather than a western saddle bag like the MegaGear "Every Ready." It so fine, you will just want to hold it and rub your camera in its case all day and when you try to go to sleep. Has a nice camera grab and hold feel - very important for this slippery little camera. With a quick push of a left-hand thumb or index finger underneath (for "righties" only maybe), the cover flips up from front, over the top, and then hangs to the back, quickly clearing the lens. Then the right hand can quickly detach its secure under-snap connection if you want it completely off for extended shooting. This easy carry street shooter, I think, is not complete without this Sony "retro" black leather protective and fast cover with shoulder straps. Despite the mentions, the RX100 is not quite a "pocket" camera. The ringed lens retracted does cause a pants pocket hang-up - OK for trench coat pockets. So go for leather-protected light shoulder carry instead.

Protects Camera, Some Issues
By Broo2 on Reviewed in the United States on July 27, 2015
Definitely protects my RX100, but adds a lot of bulk & inconvenience. My main issue is the brass knob that attaches the bottom: 1) it makes the camera sit off-level when placed upright, 2) the threads are rough and can difficult to remove, and 3) You must remove the bottom to part of the case to replace the battery/SD card. For the price, Sony should have found an alternative to the brass turn knob. :) The two-part design is nice as I can flip open one catch and the top of the camera and lens are ready to go. The thickness of the leather (& strap) made NFC difficult when transferring photos to a Nexus 6 (note: Nexus 6 is also in a case, so the issue is probably the combination of the two additional thicknesses).
