NO MORE TICKETS! iRad 950 iRadar is the next best thing!
By Eric Greenblatt on Reviewed in the United States on December 1, 2015
iRad 950 iRadar ATOM Ultra Compact Smart Detection System by Cobra Electronics Corporation is by far one of the best radars i have ever owned. That being said i have purchased a couple other Cobra products as well as one that my father had given me that was a little...outdated. This radar performs better than all of my other radars combined. Aesthetics: As big as a deck of cards, super slim. Looks good mounted on both the windshield and the dash. Also as far as something that would stick out in your car.. (for thieves) .. this thing looks nothing like other more noticeable radars, as most of them seem to carry the same shape and appeal. Functionality: Those who bash this product online for false hits while driving through the city are just unaware on how a radar works. For the most part a radar is useless while driving through city streets, you will not catch a police running speed enforcement in this way. Speed traps and VASCAR are most often used within city limits; With that said, this radar can connect to an AURA database that has many known areas where these methods are most prevalently used by police. Consequently, this function makes this radar particularly useful when driving through the city while you can mute the audio commands where you are getting false hits. As far as highway use this thing is AMAZING. I drive on the highway a lot and this little baby has saved me more times than i can keep track. I've found that it can pick up bands from about 1.5 miles away which is enough time to react to such a hit. Definitely performs well. Phone aspect: This radar is able to link to your phone via bluetooth. Personally i am using an iPhone so i cannot speak for android users, but the app that is associated with this radar performs extremely well and i haven't noticed any bugs while using the app. YOU MUST HAVE THE APP TO GAIN THE FULL POTENTIAL OF THIS RADAR. The app provides all of the visuals when picking up X, K, Ka, Ku bands (this thing picks up 6 different lasers also) as well as all AURA database associated alerts. That is why this radar was able to make the aesthetics so minimal. I have found it makes recognizing hits way easier without taking your eyes off the road trying to look at the very small display of other radars ( YOUR ENTIRE PHONE IS YOUR DISPLAY ). I bought a mount (Koomis CD player mount) that places my phone at eye level and i haven't run into any problems. AURA Database: This database is loaded with red light camera locations, speed trap locations, medium & high threat areas and caution areas, all of which are user reported and logged in the system. This ever growing community based database has proven itself useful a couple of times as far as threat areas go, its nice to have some awareness in areas that you aren't too familiar as well as just a heads up when you aren't really paying attention and are just cruising. Overall: This thing is great for the price you are paying, it competes with the other $350+ radars i have owned. It is $249.99 on the Cobra Electronics website so i jumped on this thing. Im not entirely sure what the difference is between the iRad 900 and the iRad 950 but i think it is mostly to do with the phone aspect of this radar. Don't let its size fool you!! This thing performs! Definitely would recommend this to friends and family as well as all of you!

A lot of false alerts. Small and easily hidden. Don't need a smartphone but required for display and configuring options.

A lot of false alerts. It would be nice if it remembered all the false alerts. I go through the same route almost every day and I get the same exact false alerts every day without delay. Sometimes it detects live police and sometimes it doesn't, but I would say the majority of the time it will based off all the false alerts I receive. A great feature about this radar detector it he community based reporting system, very handy for those speed traps and caution areas. Though I use this hand in hand with the Waze App which is a lot more handy with community based reporting. Pros: - Because it is to be used with a smartphone the device is small and easy to hide as it does not need the extra hardware for a display. Everything goes to your phone! Though you can use it without a smartphone as it will still alert you of oncoming detections, but will not be able to use the community based reporting feature. - Easy to setup and pair with android devices. I have not tried iOS devices as I don't like apple :) Cons: - Would be nice if the mute button was on the bottom for those who mount the radar at the very top of the windshield for better detection. - A lot of false alerts. - Smartphone App Map lacks features and options. It does not orient map based off direction of travel. - Requires smartphone for any displays or setting configurations. - Wish they came with a hardwire kit instead of making it an additional option to purchase.
