Good bang for the buck

I ordered the "factory refurbished" version for $99.99, a saving of $60 over a new one. It arrived the next day and appeared to be in like-new condition and very well packaged, although not in the original box. Upon testing, it appears to work perfectly. This is a great solution when you need a mic and music in a situation where electrical power is not readily available such as a picnic, tailgate party, outdoor wedding ceremony etc. The sound quality is better than I expected and plenty loud enough for a gathering of 25-50 people although I would not recommend it for current dance music. It comes with an extremely cheap plastic microphone. If you plan to use a mic regularly, I would definitely recommend getting a more professional version. The ION Blocker Rocker is almost identical to the Alesis Transactive Wireless, which I also own. They are both made by Alesis out of Cumberland RI. They share exactly the same design. However, there are some differences. The ION has a built in FM digital radio, the Alesis does not. The Alesis has 3 inputs with 3 separate volume controls plus a Master control. The ION has only 2 inputs, one volume control and one master. The Alesis mic input is a combination XLR and 1/4" to allow a balanced connection which means you can run a longer mic cable without loss of signal. The ION mic input is just 1/4". Both units do not have any EQ controls (high, low etc). You'll have to handle that at your music source. Also, neither unit has a line out jack so you won't be able to use earphones or send the signal to another unit. Although I have not yet run down the battery, both units have played music for several hours without evidence of any loss of battery power. Both units have a built-in lithium battery which you easily charge by plugging the provided power cord into an AC outlet. Bluetooth option connected easily and quickly.Despite the ION having the FM radio option, the Alesis seems to be designed more for professionjal use because of the connections and input options. However, both sound the same and are a good bang for your buck when in need of an economical, battery powered, portable sound system.

Firemall LLC seller - AVOID AVOID
By R. Reichelt on Reviewed in the United States on April 8, 2014
Like other reviewers buying this product refurbished - mine came DOA. It doesn't even work when plugged in. It doesn't charge. It came nicked up, and the mic was dented - which I somewhat expect with refurbished - but I expect the product to work which it did not. Luckily amazon has hooked me up with a quick return label so I can drop it off at UPS and I should see my refund before long - but this was a bummer as I was hoping to have it for a party this weekend.CLARIFICATION - this is a review of a refurbished unit from a specific seller - FIREMALL LLC.BLOCK ROCKER REVIEW (when new) - 5 STARS!! - My aunt has this same unit, brand new from Costco, and it looks and performs amazingly. I put my order in within an hour of being around her unit. I love it and it sounds great. I can't wait to get a working unit and take it camping. I'll definitely put that 50 hour battery life quote to the test when I do - and report back on the listing for the new Block Rocker - not refurb.
