Overall great camera.
By J. Devenberg on Reviewed in the United States on July 23, 2014
I purchased this camera for my wife for our 5th anniversary, and I am very happy with my purchase. First, the camera is packaged very nicely. It comes in a nice looking black box with a sleeve over it with an image of the product and other information. Once you open the box, everything is laid out in a very neat and tidy way. The build of the camera feels very solid. Some other reviews have knocked it for being entirely plastic instead of having metal and/or rubber. I think the camera feels really well built. The plastic has a nice texture on the grip and has a peal finish over the entire camera. It does not feel or look cheap or glossy. The lens is easy to put on and take off and feels very secure when it is on. Overall, I have no complaints about the build quality of this camera. Two quirks this camera has that may be off putting to some, but were pluses to me: It takes micro SD cards instead of full size and it doesn't come with a battery cradle, it charges over micro USB. Now, I already had a 64 GB micro SD card that wasn't being utilized while my largest standard SD card is only 8 GB, so I was fine with the camera taking micro SD. I also am always losing camera battery chargers, so the camera charging over micro USB, which I have all over the house and in all the cars, is a HUGE plus for me. Finally, this camera has a micro HDMI out so you can hook it up to your TV. The software on the camera is fantastic. I was able to figure out the camera in about 30 minutes of use, and this is my first non-point and shoot camera. The interface is very intuitive and beginner friendly while still having all the advanced setting and options that "prosumers" will want. Being able to use your smartphone as a remote view finder and shutter is awesome and saves the hassle and expense of buying a remote shutter trigger. I also love that the camera can automatically send pictures to your smartphone so they are easy to share on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram etc. The camera will also automatically backup your pictures to your computer wirelessly with included software installed on your computer. The image quality is astoundingly good. Granted I have only used it in very good lighting so far, but the pictures have exceeded my high expectations for the camera. The quality difference between this camera and our previous point and shoot (which was only $100 less), is amazing. The main subject is sharp and the background has a pleasant blur. Colors are rich and vibrant. Overall, very nice looking pictures. As I use the camera more, I will update my review if my opinion changes or there are any other important considerations I come across.

Good camera crippled by terrible software
By Stanley R. James on Reviewed in the United States on May 22, 2015
After several months I'm unsatisfied. The camera hardware is great, but the interface and software are flaming turds. I take photos among rugged cliffs and needed a camera that I could put in place and then operate remotely. The advertised "remote viewfinder" is a joke. If you pause the smartphone app for even a second, like to check an incoming text message, it will break the connection to the camera. No attempt to recconect. In my case, that means taking another 20 minutes to climb back up the cliff. The phone software appears to have been written by an intern. Literally every time you open the app it displays a message telling you what the software does, and you have to click "Ok" to continue. The advertised auto wifi backup feature is useful, but they don't mention that the needed PC software can no longer be downloaded. I had to find a version on a sketchy 3rd party site and I just hope it wasn't infected with anything. The pictures are indeed nice, but there are a lot of cameras with good lenses -- I was looking for the wifi features that were so prominently advertised. EDIT: After a year the camera has managed to get worse. The wifi backup feature has stopped working. The camera will not mount as a disk on my Mac. Unless I buy a micro-SD adaptor there is literally no way to get photos off the camera except by emailing them one at a time.
