Nice bass and wide "sweet spot"
By Mack Magee on Reviewed in the United States on May 23, 2021
I bought these and Kali's LP-6 monitors at the same time to try them both out and ended up keeping these. The E7 XTs were easier to use in my untreated office/studio (standard bedroom) due to a wider listening zone thanks to the waveguides (although the LP-6 also adjusted pretty well to the room too, but hadf a much narrower sweet spot). There's more control over EQ adjustments with the E7 XT than many monitors in this price range, which is great for tailoring acoustics to your space. The main reason I went with these is that the bass is much better on the E7 XTs, as it extends a little lower and is more assertive than the LP-6 (but still quite realistic). Overall, the imaging is solid: you can definitely tell where things are located in the mix and they reveal fine details well. I do have to mention that imaging is a little sharper/more clear on the LP-6, but theres less EQ control and the bass is noticeably weaker on the same tracks. If you're in it only for the imaging (not overall sound reproduction) and you have a separate subwoofer, the LP-6 might be for you. Since I'm not using a subwoofer (yet), I went with these, so I can mix low end more easily. I do plan on getting one of the PreSonus subwoofers in the next few months. I get the feeling after playing with these speakers that they would work really well with a sub, because they sound amazing when you engage the low bypass to 80hz. TLDR: +Great, assertive, and realistic bass for a 6.5 inch speaker +Good imaging and details +Easy to tailor to your space -A little bulky (check your measurements)

It sounds good but not accurate

These monitors sound good. But, if you use these to mix, you need to be aware of about a 3dB bump at 100 ~ 105Hz and a steep dip at just below 3.5kHz. I believe the former is typical of many 5" monitors at this price range. And the latter is the crossover point. There is a good set of compensation controls in the back. It would be a good idea for any users to explore the available controls. JBL 305s are much flatter in the frequency response and more suitable in mix situations.
