Jam up!

I’ve been a sound connoisseur for almost 30 years. These are an excellent value. Match them with plenty of power from a small JBL amp and enjoy clear powerful full spectrum sound. I have zero complaints about these speakers. I’m going on year 3 with them right now. Also got the 6.5 for my back doors. The gto lineup is great. I’m comparing to Memphis, Kenwood, pioneer, kicker, & clarion. I would say they have a better range balance than kicker or kenwood with stronger bass. Pretty similar to pioneer silk dome Kevlar speakers but not quite as expensive. I like the low frequency output of the jbl better than the pioneer. Clarion has always produced some top line full range speakers. These jbl are as good as the best clarions I’ve heard. Don’t hesitate. You will like them.

Tweeter blew

I had these professionally installed in my the front doors of my vehicle. I also had dynamat applied to all 4 doors, and the JBL 5 1/4 speakers in the rear doors. The shop was fantastic, however upon returning home I noticed a horrible noise coming from my front right JBL 6x9 speaker. I went back to the shop and found that the speaker was defective (after isolating the speaker and then using a test speaker in it's place). Unfortunately the speaker was defective. I probably could have called JBL, but like I told the guys at the shop, I didn't want to have them put the panels back on just so I could drive back home and deal with a customer service representative while my new sound system would be essentially useless. I bought a pair of alpines from them, and the techs installed them within 40 minutes. Did I lose out on cash? Sure. Can I say that these are bad speakers? Honestly, I only got to listen to them for about 20 minutes while driving back to my dwelling when they were initially installed. They sounded good until I was greeted with a blown tweeter. No one wants a defective speaker. But I suppose that these things happen. If you're going to have a shop install your speakers, and they're a quality crew who back their products, just purchase the speakers from them. The business I dealt with offers a lifetime warranty on all hardware and work. The JBL's in the back are doing well, and I don't think they'll crap out on me. But as it stands I can't rate the GTO939 6 x 9's too highly. Do remember, though, that I'm one of many reviewers. Most folks have had great luck with these, so don't let this review scare you off. If you're doing your own install, and you happen to get a dud, then you can see about getting the speaker replaced. In my situation I simply didn't have the time to go through with that process.
