Amazing 15,000:1 high contrast. Super bright 4000 lumen output. Lots of smartphone and wireless features.

PROS * Excellent contrast ratio of 15,000:1. This means that the brightest white and the darkest black have a lot of contrast between them, 15,000 to 1 difference to be exact (dynamic contrast, not static contrast). You get excellent whites and blacks in the same picture. Many experts consider contrast ratio the most important factor for video quality. (Remember how early LED TVs black looked more grey and plasma TVs were more desirable because the blacks were darker. Higher contrast = better picture.) * 4000 lumens of brightness which is exception. This is considered "high brightness" for projectors. 4000 lumens is really at the top of projector technology. Flashlights for example range from 20 lumens (very weak) to 200 lumens (very bright). The end result is that you can watch very clear videos in lit rooms, something that projectors could not always do. Usually a projector room has to be very dark to get good picture brightness. Not with this model. This ViewSonic puts out a very bright and clear image. * These two are the best selling points of this ViewSonic projector. Although the resolution numbers are lower than some other models, the image quality is really exceptional here. * The lamp life is estimated to be 3,500 hours. Bulbs have always been the most unattractive part of video projectors. When a bulb goes, it can be expensive to replace. New LED projectors, although much more expensive for high quality version, are great because the power use is less and the LED bulbs basically never die out. 1.6x optical zoom lens is an excellent feature, although not a game changer. The lens can be adjusted to amplify the picture to 1.6 times the size without distortion. This allows the projector to be placed further away from the screen without losing image quality. Ultimately this is helpful, especially in larger conference rooms or home theatre rooms. Blu-ray 3D capable. This projector can play 3D videos, however not at full 1080p quality. HDMI connection to run the highest quality video. This unit also has 2 VGA connections, which are basically out-dated but still useful for old computers. Wi-Fi ready means wireless connectivity - awesome! However to use Wi-Fi, you need to buy the ViewSonic dongle. Plays from a USB cable from a computer or even a Flash Drive USB stick (very cool). Plays from smartphones! With ViewSonic’s mobile app, you can send videos, photos, PDFs and Microsoft Office documents from your smartphone or tablet to the projector. The ViewSonic mobile app turns your smartphone or tablet in a remote control as well. CONS Resolution (1280x800) is 720p (DVD quality) but not 1080p (Blu-ray quality). The image quality for this projector is excellent, however ViewSonic should have provided higher resolution so that we can get the most detail from our Blu-ray movies. DVDs are becoming obsolete so at $1000, this projector should offer 1080p resolution. With this said, this projector's resolution is still great for streaming videos (Amazon Prime Instant Video, Netflix, Hulu Plus, etc). Wireless dongle not included. To run this projector over the Wi-Fi next work, the WPD-100 wireless adapter is needed. I wish Wi-Fi was built in. At $1,000 it should have been included. CONCLUSION All in all, this is an excellent video projector. The very high contrast ratio and high brightness lumen output create amazing video picture quality. I wish the resolution was 1080p to allow for the most detail from Blu-Ray discs, however I feel that the picture quality makes up for it. With all the smartphone and wireless features, this projector is easy to use, versatile, and attractive for home or business use. Recommended. I am loving it.

it's a perfect projector. When it is unusable
By JR on Reviewed in the United States on February 12, 2016
One of these went down less than a year after purchase. We had a warranty, but were out of a projector while it was away (a few weeks). Hopefully it holds out longer this time. When it works, it's a perfect projector. When it is unusable, it's a thousand-dollar paper weight. Only downgraded from 5 stars because of the major mechanical failure.
