Fit and finish matches the SL1 body well, fits tight, but has limitations
By bestpractices on Reviewed in the United States on March 10, 2015
I bought this grip for 2 reasons:1) I knew the SL1 was a battery hog and would need 2 batteries for all the extended shooting I planned to do with this thing;2) I have big hands and this grip fills my big hands enough to make the SL1 feel like a full-sized DSLR. It really feels very good with this grip.Though the Canon SL1 was not designed to electronically function with a battery grip, the fit and finish of this grip is reasonable. It is not the carbon fiber plastic of the SL1 body, but it is a hard plastic with a matte finish to help blend into the camera body. Many photographers tell me it looks very stock as if Canon made it. There is a cable to get the shutter button on this grip to work, but that does not include AF or AE functions with that button. What you're getting is simply the remote shutter release function that would occur with the optional Canon remote shutter release accessory. So Manual shooting only with this battery grip shutter button, which is just fine for your M shooters out there. The spin-on lock screw attaches very tight, with absolutely no wobble because it is not gear driven but a direct screw attachment. It is also a smaller diameter so it is out of the way of my fingers. I prefer this design compared to the other grip I've seen for the SL1 which is a really large, obtrusive lock wheel that would be prone to break in short order.Kit comes with shutter cable and IR shutter remote control.Nice kit and packaging for something made in China. Overall I'm very happy with this 3rd party battery grip for the Canon SL1.a

Pro Series?? Nowhere near it. Bait and switch, also.
By CRC Idaho on Reviewed in the United States on January 9, 2014
Got this for a Nikon D3200, because the camera is so small and lightweight, I wanted the extra grip length and weight. Nikon doesn't make one for the D3200, so I thought I'd get this instead. The loose, rattling door is annoying, but foam tape can at least stop the rattle. What earned this item it's over deserved one star is the tripod mount at the bottom. And the fact that they pulled the classic bait and switch. See the photos, it's not quite what you're getting. Notice the lock knobs front and back to mount to the camera? You get one, not two, which is harder to mount and applies asymmetrical pressure on the pivot point, not good for any plastic housing. You're not getting what they're showing, period. I'm sure they'll say its 'new and improved'. Hardly. Read on...Mounted a standard 1/4" quick release plate on it, first time use right out of the box, and the plate could not be removed. It just sits there and spins. The only way to release it was to pull the QR plate forcefully, and it didn't take much force. The metal female thread popped out of the base, revealing that it is lightly toothed at its top circumference, and seats into a similar toothed plastic sleeve. A plastic sleeve less than 1/8" thick. You call this Pro Series? Hey, I knew it was plastic, but the design of this tripod mount is just pathetically bad. Did you really expect it to last at all? Mattel toys are better engineered than this.So if you want the extended battery time and extra grip length, yeah, this does the job, but it's reasonable to expect that your buyers will, on occasion, mount this on a tripod.I'm not going to pay to ship it back, it's not worth it, and I'm sure I'll get stuck with a replacement that has the same badly engineered tripod mount. Now that it's popped out, I'll try to epoxy or JB Weld it back into its flimsy sleeve, and hope that works. Because the design doesn't. What shoddy engineering, shame on them.UPDATE:Over 1 hour of surgery, removal of 23 screws, gentle disassembly of the 5 main body plates. Turns out that the female sleeve that holds the metal 1/4"x20 tripod mount wasn't even big enough to accommodate the metal mount. Lots of plastic flash prevented this, and the injection molding was crescented so badly, the 1/8" plastic sleeve couldn't even accommodate the metal mount. So they just jammed it in half a millimeter or so. No wonder it spun right out at first use.So the sleeve was carefully reamed, mount was fit tested before being liberally epoxied in place with JB Weld. I expect same time or longer for re-assembly.In conclusion, no way I would have bought this knowing the repair awaiting me. Total of nearly 3 hours on a bench. I thought it would be much less time, but once started, I had to finish since it was either that or toss it since I'm sure opening it violated the warranty. Never again, never. Unintelligent engineering, very low quality injection molding, even lower QC standards. I'll be lucky if I get a good week out of it.
