Excellent backup for low batteries

Several years ago I purchased the smaller Jackery bar for my daughter. She spent a summer working in Boston and did a lot of sightseeing. She relied on public transit and had no way to recharge her phone if the battery got low. She used her Jackery charger frequently and allowed friends to use it as well. It did a great job, so when she needed to be away at school and work for 12-16 hours at a time, I thought I would get a bigger charger to meet her needs for a charged cell phone and tablet. I came straight back to Jackery and Amazon for this charger. (I recently bought a second one for myself) The price point of apx. $13 seemed good to me. This model also has a flashlight function which is no great shakes, but could be helpful in a pinch. It comes with an 18 inch USB cable that has a micro USB on one end. It works well for most of my Android based devices. (My tablet has a non micro charging port so I need an adapter) If you have apple products you need a different cable or an adapter that would fit your device. Amazon sells cables/adapters that would work for that. This needs to be charged out of the box for the first use. Instructions are included. Plug the micro USB end into the charger and the other end into any USB charging port. I have wall adapters that take USB plugs. Once the device if fully charged it is ready for use. Plug the USB end into the charger/brick and the micro USB into your smart phone or tablet. Press the power button on the side once to begin the process. The manufacturer says the output is 2.1 A max. I think on my Galaxy Note smartphone this charger will give me about 1% or a bit less per minute. That is while the phone is not in use. I have tested it to see if I can use the device while charging and I can, but I wouldn't do that on a regular basis. I've tried no name chargers in the past but have found them wanting. One wouldn't hold a complete charge for more than a day and others charged the device so slowly there was little benefit in carrying them. I carry the Jackery bar with me on a daily basis, as does my daughter. It feels good to be prepared in case I forget to charge my cell phone. On more that one occasion I have had to charge my cell phone and it's nice to be able to do it while the phone is safely in my purse.

Maybe I got a lemon? Regardless, it doesn't work!

I ordered this based on the overall great reviews this product has on Amazon.com. I wanted it to charge our two iPhone 5's and our iPad as well. We are trying to wait for the iPhone 6 to come out for our next upgrade with AT&T, but we have the original iPhone 5 and at two years old, the batteries on them are a joke! The Jackery bar arrived, and aesthetically, it is nice, with its sleek brushed aluminum case and light weight. It charged itself up fully (to three blue lights) within six hours as the website indicated it should. We plugged in an iPhone, pressed the power button on the Jackery (blue lights came on), and then the lightning bolt charge icon came on. Yay! Except...wait. Said lightning bolt promptly disappeared, and the device no longer charged. We thought maybe it was because we were using a Belkin cable, so we went to the Apple Store and bought a new Apple-brand lightning/USB cable. We tried this cable with the Jackery...aaaaand got the same effect. The phone displays a charge icon for about 20 seconds, then charging stops. On my phone, a message popped up saying, "Accessory may not be supported," which I thought was strange, considering all the aforementioned great reviews that mention user success with charging Apple iPhones. On my husband's phone, the charging icon would constantly come on and go off as if we had plugged/unplugged the cable about 10 times within a minute. This made the phone vibrate/chime almost constantly, like the phone didn't know what was happening: "I'm charging, now you've unplugged it, now it's in again and I'm charging, now it's disconnected again...wait, charging again...hang on, nope. Not charging." I went to the Jackery website, went through their FAQ section and downloaded a user guide, thinking it would have troubleshooting in it, but nope. It's two pages long. Bottom line: I think that between two separate iPhone 5's, two different cables (a Belkin and an official Apple one), and after reading the manual and visiting the website to make sure we charged and used the device correctly, it should work. And it didn't. It was a waste of time and money, and now we're going to have to go find something else to tide us over until the release of a new iPhone. Except this time, I'm not ordering something online. I'm buying it from a brick-and-mortar store so that I can take it back* if there are problems. *immediately and without hassle; I realize that Amazon does allow returns on many items, but I am awful when it comes to follow-through on returns that involve shipping things back
