mood setter!
By Sir EvoX on Reviewed in the United States on January 29, 2013
I visited a friend this past weekend,I noticed her alarm clock looked kind of unique. She had her ipad docked to it, playing music videos right by her bedside. It sounded great for the size, it has a slim profile so it fit perfectly in her head board. I started playing with it, then got distracted you know.. but it is a prettty high-end looking piece. So I found one here and ended up getting one for myself. I didn't even know it had a video out until I got it. So I have this on my bedside, and when i'm watching videos on my iPad, I have it playing on my tv also. Very slick.

All Products are Defective - Terrible Experience with Company
By JA on Reviewed in the United States on June 3, 2014
The alarm volume feature on this alarm clock does not work on all products. I ordered this alarm clock, and on the first day I slept through the alarm, because it went off at an extremely low volume and not the much louder volume I had set the alarm clock to go off at. I began testing it out and realized the alarm volume feature does not work on the alarm clock. I had been listening to music the night before at a very low volume and that is what volume the alarm goes off at. So, if you forget to increase the volume of the radio before bed, that is the volume the alarm goes off at the next morning.I called the company and they said that product was defective and I should exchange it for a new one. So, I packaged it all back up, drove to UPS, dropped it off and Amazon sent me a new one right away. Low and behold, the new product I got had the exact same defect. So, I called the company again, and they said it just must be bad luck. They told me to send the product to their facility and they'd test out one to make sure it works before sending me a new one. So, I once again packaged up the device, mailed it back to them, and asked them to please send me a new one ASAP, as I hate using my cell phone as my alarm clock.I never heard back from them. After several E-mail and phone call attempts, I finally got through to someone one month after they received my alarm clock I sent them. They said they'd look into it and have someone get back to me. No one ever did. So, I sent more E-mails and more phone calls. It wasn't until I got through the second time and they knew who I was, that I realized they were deliberately ignoring me, because all their alarm clocks were malfunctioning with the same defect. They offered to send me a Bluetooth audio system that I could put on my bike (I don't have a bike) to replace the alarm clock. I told them I needed an alarm clock so they offered me my money back. At that point, I had wasted so much time with this, I just took the hit and had them send me the defective alarm clock back, which they did a couple weeks later, with no apology, discount, gift card, nothing.I sent a few follow up E-mails explaining the situation and hoping for a response or even attempt to remedy the situation, but they all got ignored. So, now I just make sure after I'm done listening to music at night, I increase the volume before I fall asleep so that the alarm clock wakes me up in the morning. The few times I've fallen asleep listening to music caused problems though, so I now set a back up alarm clock. Anyway, I just thought everyone should know, that every product this company manufactures is defective, and they don't really care that much and won't do anything to remedy the situation. Hope this is helpful.

The AM radio band does not work.

We needed an AM/FM radio, a clock with a display that did not light up the room at night, controls that are discernable at night, an alarm, and a remote control. We did not particularly care about the iPad dock but might have occasionally used it. So this unit is good in every respect EXCEPT for the AM radio band, which is important for us. All it received was static, no matter where we plugged it in. Meanwhile, the FM band was fine. After calling the company to get their suggestions, we returned the first one (could not be exchanged) and ordered another. The second one had the same AM problem (again, no trouble with the FM), the company had the same suggestion, so unless Amazon simply repackaged the faulty one we sent back the first time, we are probably done with this product. Our suggestion to NYNE is that they do not advertise this as having an AM band.
Good Alarm Clock With a Below Average Dock

With the alarm clock/dock devices there is not much to the 'specifications' as they are a basic product with basic functionality. They act as an alarm and they play sound back through various mediums. The NYNE plays music back from these sources:1. FM/AM (Radio)2. iPod (30 pin i.e. nothing newer than the iPod 4)3. iPhone (nothing newer than the 4s)4. iPad (nothing newer than the 3)5. Aux (an audio source plugged into the 3.5mm jack on the back of they NYNE)Lots of options and since the alarm clock either works or not, the review will mainly be based on the sound because that is what you are paying extra for.[---Alarm Clock---]9/10The display is a milky orange LED with dimming options. Standard brightness is very low, outputting a soft orange throw about 2" away; not very reflective. The precision of the LED output is crisp and organic i.e. the read out exudes fullness and smoothing. A high resolution readout. For the size it is a little above an inch tall.Compare this to my previous alarm clock that has one of those bright blue LED visuals where it throws a blue cloud about 10" away. Also with the latter you hope every night you do not make eye contact with the alarm clock lest you get shot in the eye with blue. The buzzer is...interesting. It is a futuristic 'pulsing' that starts off with a slow 1-pulse and gradually moves up in progressive beats. Because of the speakers equipped with the dock, it can get ear-poppingly loud. For the price you are paying, you should be getting a unit with close to the best type of 'clock' you can get. No leeway here. At this price, we expect nothing less than a good alarm clock and the NYNE does that...as it should.[---Sound---]6.5/10Sound itself lacks a defined bass and has shrieky highs. This unit will output very loud volumes--especially within the spaces of a bedroom with little distortion. However, the sound raises itself just slightly above your typical, plastic dock speaker system. While this unit is not supposed to be a standalone dock, the audio output quality is a few notches higher than old cd/alarm clocks that cost much much less. The price paid here does not warrant exactly the type or quality you are getting. However there are worse devices.[---Construction---]7/10Solid, plastic-y, alarm clock to be sure. Does not necessarily feel completely cheap though it is a plastic alarm clock. The support included is for the iPad and with this it works very well. The stand is rigid and stiff and has a rubber end to keep the iPad secure. Unless you are a violent snoozer (the kind that presses the button) you might have something to think about though in most cases the iPad will not fall over because it is held firmly.-----------------------------------The impressive part is the alarm clock and the volume output. The price could be a little less for what you are getting here as the sound quality is almost there, though not quite. Does not command a big footprint on your stand and has a modern, inconspicuous look. If what you want is loudness, then this would be a good clock-dock to consider however if you do not not, compare audio qualities to get the perfect 'sync'.
Great sound from dock, undesired "feature"

The alarm clock / docking feature works great with my iPhone 4S. Sound quality is excellent, no distortion even wen played loudly. The dock does have a "feature" that I find annoying. Every time I dock the iPhone, the dock auto-switches the iPhone player on, so music will automatically start playing. Maybe this is a good feature during the day, but in the middle of the night, when kids are sleeping, and the volume is up high, not so much. From what I can tell, there is no way to disable this, so I have learned to live with it.

Bad connection with iPad right out of box
By TJ23 - Reviewed in the United States on July 24, 2013

Right out of the box, to get the iPad to connect/charge on the dock I had to press it very hard onto the connector and prop it up just right with the easel on the back to get the connection to continually remain in tact. 3 months later, after using this to both charge the iPad and play music with it, the dock no longer recognizes the iPad. Clock, radio and other functions all still work fine, but no matter how hard I press/wiggle/prop the iPad, the dock won't play my iPad music. What a disappointing piece of junk. This is now a very expensive alarm clock radio. I suppose if you never want to remove the iPad ever again this will probably work for you.
