Hated It/Now Love It
By JT on Reviewed in the United States on February 3, 2014
I will probably update this review as time goes on. At first, I couldn't figure out why I could get the units to connect by themselves without plugging them into anything other than power.. Then, they didn't connect to TV. I moved to a different TV, same problem. I found Actiontec chat support and they were able to finally guide my way through the thing. Basically on the TV connected to the receiver, you just keep pressing buttons on the included remote, find Configure and delete the transmitter. Then add the transmitter. You have 60 seconds to run to the transmitter and hold down the Sync button. The end result is the Sync button with a SOLID green light, not blinking green, not orange and not red on either transmitter and receiver. You should be able to go to advanced settings and see entries for both transmitter and receiver, as well. Apparently, you cannot ignore HDMI Pass-through. You have to have a TV connected to the Transmitter, as well. One thing I was told to do, is hold the reset button in for 15 seconds, then unplug the power for 10 seconds on the transmitter, repeating the process on the receiver. I have the Receiver hooked up to my XBOX One's HDMI in passthrough. It works fine. Mind you, I do not have Kinect enabled. I've seen videos of people being able to change channels using Kinect with DirecTV (which is what I have) by simply saying "Watch CNN" or "Watch MTV" or whatever it is they wanted to watch. I have yet to try that. In fact, I might just disconnect my IR Blaster from my Receiver and see if I can depend on my Kinect for voice and possibly even the remote. I also have the two units about 40 feet away, I get the lowest bar signal and it seems fine. I plan on moving it upstairs when I get a chance just to see if it still is functional. EDIT 2/14/14: Well, I had a friend come over to help me hook it up. We took my HDMI computer monitor and transmitter upstairs, plugged the HDMI monitor directly into the DirecTV Genie Mini box and THAT worked. I then put the transmitter in the middle of the mix. My friend was having trouble understanding just what I was doing, but he soon figured it out. I guess I'm not good at explaining things. Anyway, THAT worked, too. I then had him bring my monitor downstairs to my room, we connected everything but then left to go eat dinner. He went home, I came back and looked at my receiver. It had 3 solid green lights, which is exactly what it is suppose to have. I turned on my XBOX One, grabbed my DirecTV remote from upstairs and turned everything on. It worked! I should note that I'd left the DirectTV receiver ON, so I got a picture without using the remote. I then tried to change channels. It DID work, but it was a bit laggy. For gosh sakes, it's wireless, so LAG IS expected, within reason. Overall, I AM happy with this device. Here's my setup: Mind you, the rooms are not directly on top of another. They're about 40 ft walking distance and then straight up. I have not actually checked the signal strength and I'm afraid to press buttons since it actually DOES work. Upstairs: coax cable to DirecTV STB to HD Actiontec Transmitter via HDMI. The back of the transmitter is not connected to another TV. Therefore, connecting a TV to the transmitter is not necessary. Downstairs: HD Actiontec receiver to XBOX One (it has two HDMI connections, supports HDMI passthrough) to Monitor all connected via HDMI I will update this review again as time goes on. BASICALLY, you can use your XBOX One to change the channels, with voice command, via Kinect. I've seen YouTube videos of this. However, I don't know how it works with the wireless HD device in the mix. I imagine it works, but it's kinda slow. But, once again, it's wireless. Expect SOME reasonable delay or go home. Once I get this figured out, I'll update again.

Don't waste your money because this wastes your time
By Wolverine331 on Reviewed in the United States on September 30, 2014
Don't waste your money. I've had this thing for two weeks connected to an Optoma projector. This piece of junk loses sync every two or three days and it takes me two to three HOURS to get it working again. There is a video on youtube by the manufacturer and the two suggestions he makes don't work. Spend a little extra money and buy a product that has more positive reviews. Casue this aint' it!!!!!!!!!! I'm going to search amazon right now and find a different wireless hdmi setup. UPDATE: Had a power loss to the outlet my transmitter was connected to last night (10/17/14) left the re-sync until this morning cause I was afraid of the frustration (see above). I am reporting that I was wise to get some sleep because the FRUSTRATION continues. 2 hours now...plugging...unplugging...syncing....changing settings on the menu....still hasn't decided to work. So this update is to tell you that it's still a giant plastic piece of GARBAGE. But I have no other solution because I can't run a 25 foot HDMI cable through the ceiling of my two story house. (Using this downstairs). My recommendation to not buy this is still the same. DON"T BUY THIS GARBAGE. FINAL UPDATE: (20 October 2014) I HAVE FOUND A SOLUTION TO THE PROBLEM!!!!!! I bought a 50 foot cable from amazon.com for about 30 dollars and disconnected this worthless, time wasting piece of electronic garbage. I ran the 50 foot cable from the projector in the ceiling at the back of my living room to a HDMI switcher box and it works like a charm. (Had to run it on the surface of the wall and follow the contours to the front of the living room but I used plastic clamps. My wife gave her approval despite being able to see the HDMI cable so mission accomplished. Wish I had done that in the first place!) I will try to get a full refund on this worthless junk and if not I intend to chunk it into the garbage. I would not curse someone by re-selling it as used. I don't hate anyone that much. The overwhelming relief of finally being rid of this thing is almost indescribable. And the picture is exceedingly superior with the HDMI cable directly connected than this terrible product could ever produce. I stand in complete agreement with the other reviewer who stated they would give it zero stars if it were only possible. We need to do away with stars and start at negative 5 and go to positive 5. You can guess what I'd give this product if that scale were in use.
